Well the title basically says it all. Have your lasers even caused you to get in trouble with the law? I am always afraid of someone dobbing on me when i use my lasers.

As far as the laser usage is kept indoors (house/apartment/warehouse?), risk getting in conflict with the law/other people (neighbors/bystanders) is very low (unless you plan to set your house on fire;))

But outside usage, well... that's where the laser user responsibility increases vastly.

Living in the countryside vs. living in the town/city comes in question, too.

Ideally, no people and aircraft around is the win situation, isn't it? But then the known dilemma arises: who to show your laser art off?

:shhh:

I operated a 15mW Spirograph against my garage door ca. 2002 and someone called the cops on me, luckily the cop was a family friend so no charges were pressed. That was the last time I shone a laser outdoors until I moved to the country - miles from neighbors.

I avoid public exposure of my hobby in particular so nothing bad, or negative come out of it.. My friends arnt dumb either so i get to play safe most of the time.. and i get to show new stuff at lpf, i couldnt be anymore trouble free..

Don't you think thats just a little ironic based on your username?:D

I've got to join in with norbyx and Pman on this,
and my new 589nm hasn't even arrived yet!
Also, living in the country is a big plus.

An officer stopped me as I was walking home from work a few minutes ago. He seemed pretty ignorant about lasers, and told me that it was dangerous how I was "bobbing" my laser up and down as I walked. I explained to him the same way I would to a retard that it's impossible to keep the human hand perfectly still while walking, which puts my whole body in motion. My arctic was barely moving, but to a simpleton, a little is a lot. He asked for ID, and I forgot that I could refuse to show him my ID if i'm not under suspect of a crime, since the Stop and Identify statute is enacted in 25 states, and Virginia isn't one of them. After he sat in his car for like 5 minutes, he came out and said that he was going to "look this up", and if it's illegal, he's coming to get it. Before I could politely tell him to consume phalluses, he quickly got in his car and left.

It looks like the long arm of the law wants to tickle my taint, guys.

an officer thought i might hav had a gun but saw it was a laser and just said keep it away for now

In Australia most people think that laser pointers are banned completely. There is a very hefty fine if you even have a legal laser (1mW pointer) in a public place. I would love to show off my hobby to random people and feel good about what i do but these laws suck and i can't do that. There was a bloke on the news a little shile ago who shone a green laser at a aircraft that was landing. He was all over the news and he looked like a bit of a drugged f head. I wish there was something i could to make the laws less harsh, a petition wouldn't do anything i don't think.

Anyway, the most trouble i have been in with the law is getting my <5mW red laser pen seized.

wow it sounds like these Australian laser laws a real pain in the bum:D the U.S. restrictions are annoying enough to deal with but the laws in australia sound abominable

well i hope they change but they'll need a reason and i dont know any kind of reason that could lift several very strict laws

the only time i've gotten in trouble is for trying to buy a laser off DX, that got seized, but i'm very skeptical about shining my laser outside because there was some idiot on the news that got caught for shining a laser at a plane right where i live, what a dick head, australia is so crap to enjoy our hobby :(
