Sony 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector

Key Points:
-$50K (“Please call 1-866-294-7669 to order”):whistle:
- 147-inch image
-4K 4096 x 2160 resolution
- projector sits 7 inches from the wall
-“The laser light source is composed of Blue Laser Diodes”
- smartphone-sized HD model coming out in October
-“Sony says that even if you project an image on an uneven or curved surface, all parts of the picture will be in focus.”
-“…future, when mobile devices are likely to have their own built-in projectors…shrinking it down small enough to fit into a phone seems like a logical next step”

The wired article which I guess is talking about the HD version says “The projector uses red, green, and blue lasers as light source” where as Sony spec page for the the 4K version says blue lasers.

If the image remains in focus even on curved surfaces, then the light source has to be red, green and blue diodes, and it has to be scanned like existing laser picoprojectors. If it uses similar tech to the prior projectors (blue LED's and a phosphor wheel), the image wouldn't stay in focus on curved surfaces.

EDIT: From the Wired article:

That’s due to the nature of lasers and the PicoP laser-beam scanning system, developed by a company called MicroVision, being used in the MPCL1. The projector uses red, green, and blue lasers as light sources for the image, and those lasers hit a constantly moving MEMS mirror to reflect images toward your wall or another projection surface.

So yes, same technology as existing laser projectors, just much better.
