Halo Style 2 stage COILGUN

Milli: Sounds bad. What happend?

Leo: One of the first...not really ^^ the coilgun principle goes back to WW I or so.
I am a fan of coilgun.com....coilgun-systems...James Paul. His gun was very impressing...still is actually. The actual gun looked just like the 3D model when fabrication was done. Design is nice as well! Plus he tried alot also...check out his coilgun theory sites.

It quenches the field...so the projectile has to be lurking into the coil already then the pulse hits it. Thats why I prefer contacts over IR gates. Waste of money, space and parts! Contacs switch with almost no delay. IR gates are kinda slow...trust me...makes no sense.

I will make a how to video within this month hopefully...working on a 3 stage coilgun...compact...as simple as possible. "Simple" ;-)

I'll keep an eye out for the video for sure.

Ok, so after a little troubleshooting I found an intermittent/cold solder joint on the negative buss for the capacitor bank. It makes sense because the charger would not charge or make the characteristic whine sound. I might be able to post a short video of it piercing an aluminum can tonight. ^^ I added some more caps for a total of 2450uF on the primary capacitor bank. ~112 Joules.

Good to read its not a bigger problem...

I like to seperate all components when something isnt working (anymore)...test the SCRs, the charger...connect it to a single cap for example and see if it charges or not.

I will have to finish another pulse-laser-gun first, before I can continue working on my other 3stage coilgun :( so much work, but not enough time.

I'm going to increase the primary capacitor bank to ~3000uF and test it at that power with it running as single stage first. But after that I'm going to redesign it as a 2 stage bullpup rifle in honor of AnselmoFanZero, who gave me the inspiration to build a 2 stage uber coil gun/ rifle. I didn't know anything about coil guns a couple of weeks ago, but through some collaboration with AnselmoFanZero I'm achieving much more power than my wildest dreams. Salute to you man. :beer:

@millirad
I'm only on this project because of anselmo. Salute to you, Anselmo! :beer:
;)

@Leo, I appreciate you joining the coil gun build team. We need people like you who will build powerful and interesting coil guns. As members of this team, we risk our lives for the project. So be careful and I salute you too bro. :beer:

@millirad
Thanks dude. I'll surely send some pics of mine when it goes ready. I just need the cap charger circuit :yabbem: damnit I cant find some circuit that boosts up to 800v with 500mA :p
Salute millirad! :beer:

btw.. is prototype reading this? He seemed interested too.

Yes, Prototype is definitely in. He's going to build one bad ass coil gun. He's a smart dude and will take his time until he see's the light. These are really dangerous projects, but they are worth the danger involved because when done right they are silent, potentially deadly and a ten on the cool factor. :D

hahah yeah sure. He's surely in I'm waiting eager for his coilgun.
Mine first cap bank have 247,6J and the second have 147,2J. Lets hope mine goes cool tho :gh:

Once you get the charging circuit designed, it's going to be one uber coil gun with tons of power. You won't be able to keep the ladies off you. Bond ............James Bond. Salute bro! :beer:

@millirad
hmmmm ladies... (salivating - homer style)
Too bad I'm engaged :rolleyes:...
ontopic: Damn I really want it to be ready and cool, james bond style as you said.

Engaged! That's cool, well you will be a magnet that just gets people everywhere at the local clubs wanting to be you with that uber cool coil gun. Keep us posted dude. Hehe

Hahah sure. The lasers aren't enough you know :eg:

oh well, you are very good at motivating. I'll be doing some personal things here and I'll work on my CG after then!
