Halloween Display

I wanted to incorporate lasers into my Halloween decoration this year. The trick thus far has been designing a display that won't attract the wrong attention or be too dangerous for children (like the laser pumpkin ). I thought about just a beam or three pointed into the night sky with my 1W green, but I wouldn't put it past most of my neighbors to assume the worst and involve law enforcement. I could also just bounce beams around my front lawn at a height exceeding 7 feet...

Any ideas?

Also, what are YOU doing this Halloween that's pertinent to lasers?

probably gonna have a bunch of black and orange balloons all around my house. I'm gonna dress up as Sephiroth and have my laser hidden in the hilt of my friends Masamune and I'm gonna sit on a chair with a bowl of candy in my lap like a fake scare crow and if kids take too much I'll shine the laser behind them and start popping the balloons or something...I'll figure it all out next week

Where I live I get about 2 trick or treaters every Halloween...so I probably won't be doing anything fancy.

If I were you , I'd point the argon up in the sky : Maybe if nature helps with a bit of fog it would become visible from miles away ;D

Be very careful with this. Many localities have what are referred to as "over the horizon" restrictions on outdoor laser use. Straight up would definitely be over the horizon. Plus, you have set up a beacon by which the law enforcement officers can find you .

Yeah, the same story here.  So far, in the past 10 years or so it seems like everywhere I've been on Halloween there's been like 5 trick or treaters at most.  I think Halloween is dieing off... too many risks and parents are too afraid now days.  

Last year, I had my 5mW green I used to shine on the grass or trees just to get some attention of some children who thought it was the coolest laser pointer they've ever seen, then I told them to get some candy and gtfo...just kidding.  ;D

I just don't see anything good comming out of using lasers for halloween.  Everybody is so scared now days, they'll call the cops or try to sue if they find the chance.   But, I guess if you're extreemly careful and don't use too high powered lasers, it should be ok.  I'll stay at 5mW though.

Because humans are a frightened lot and politicians like to do things that make it LOOK LIKE they are helping to protect them from the scary stuff

Plus, you have not considered the alien connection.

What if a group of aliens were coming by just to visit Jupiter on holiday and saw your "signal" laser in the air?

Then they would come by Earth and say, "Whoa! Look at all the tasty treats down there."

Then they would invade the Earth and eat all the scared little humans.


And it would be all your fault


Try getting a date in this town after that .

I have 2 halloween evenings coming up, the haunted house gets the 150mw scanner and the liquid sky. Out in the woods my hand held spiro will light the trees at the back of one of the ponds as the group walk past..... then there are my other hand helds which will be used for random beams through the woods as it is usualy misty at this time of year.

you should put up a whole bunch of black balloons right by your door and then when kids come up turn your laser on and pop one and see there reactions, and if you are really good you would video tape it for all of us to see! ;D

I get about 30 or so kids around here, not a huge amount but enough to want to do something. I have been thinking all year about what I could do with my lasers for Halloween, but I'm trying to figure out something that will be totally safe - no chance that anyone could get hit in the eye with a beam. You know how curious and nosy little kids are...

I've half a mind to just hand out candy from my garage (instead of the front door) and fill the garage with fog (assuming it isn't a naturally foggy night - that would be even better, but if nature won't oblige, I'll have to provide my own fog) and have a liquid sky and some diffraction gratings set up. Then, everyone will get wind of the laser show on top of the hill and next year there will be twice as many kids and I'll run out of candy! ;D

I just moved to Detroit not too long ago so I don't know what to expect. Could be a TON could be that night is too dangerous here (I live in a high crime area) for trick or treaters. does anyone live in/near Detroit? :-?
