Half of G-ball lenses on NUBM06/8 are as good as G-2 (do you agree?)

Ok as for my new M02 520 Gball,
it sure is looking like an oval spot.
At 15 ft. its hitting just about 3 in. by 2 in. on a white door. It is brutal on the eye's looking at the spot WOW! so I looked at the spot through my glasses and its still just about an oval but a bit more rectanglelish and to what I see through my glasses its cut to about 2 in. by 1 in.
Sorry for my lame stats:eek:

Love to see some pictures of the dot if you can swing it? :)

Lifetime built the heatsink for it so I can send him a phone pic and you know how that goes as i'm sure your always doing business with him;):shhh:
By the way my eyes are still adjusting an hour later as that spot is bright bright bright!

No worries, was just wondering. Was thinking about a 02 vs the new n520 any thoughts pertaining to the two ?

Hope your eyes are ok, I've seen some 1 watt 520 and they are killer bright!

Haaa Yea, I do some business with Lifetime, can't say enough good things about his trustworthyness. But I'm sure you know. :)

I always wear my safety glasses when measuring the spot, otherwise the splash will make it look bigger, also a dark colored beam stop works best, white is the worst.

Also I tape a pair of cheap amber glasses over my camera lens to get a pic of the spot or you won't get a good pic that really shows the true spot size.

My worst GBall focus was on an 07 and an 08 at basically 2 inches by 3 at 15 feet, but so far none of my 06 Gballs have been that bad.

This was an 07 or 08 at 15 feet, with the amber glasses it's easier to see.

The beam bummed me out a bit as I thought it would be a little brighter but the spot really showed what 1W of green is.
Again though with a little turn of the host on the tight axis the beam was brighter. Like you said RedC it sure fans out on the bad side.
The white door wasn't the best test spot I admit and that splash wow bright!
Are you using amber sun glasses over you camera or laser glasses?

I wear the laser safety glasses and I have some old T-Rex cheapie safety glasses that I just popped the lens off the eyeglass fames and hang in front of my camera with a piece of scotch tape.

-------EDIT------

I have ordered more of these and hope to get some good ones to use with 6X cyl pairs.

I can't get the GBall out of the can without it shattering, not that I would de-can any of these jewels, but a 4-5mm FL single element with 99% power transmission would be interesting and possibly increase useful range, if we could get Techhood or DTR to bin these 06 diodes I would pay extra for the well focused ones as they are power houses, even if and I say if they are a little less powerful than the 44 the divergence is better and that makes a big difference.

At 50 feet I get a longer sharp line through the 3X BE, like a sharp 1.5 inch line and it burns wet leaves in the rain, I know longer FL is supposed to rob a little power but 4-5mm single elements look to be quite useful, maybe we could source some for our M9 x 0.5 barrels?

Hi RC,

I am waiting for NUGM01 from DTR. Once it comes I will post the picture comparing the spot with 02. I mean comparing G-balls.

I'm sure they vary block to block based on the OEM's specs but I would like to see one just for an idea of their range. Please do post some pics.

Hi RC,

Yes, the Gball of NUGM01 is much-much better (maybe luck?).
At 2.2A my old abused LPM reads 1.0W while it was 0.95W for NUGM02.

Here pics at 300mA direct and at 1200mA through googles:

I just got in 2 days ago what is billed as an 06 on ebay, I can't read the code between the pins, but it really looks 455nm, not 445nm to me and to bad it makes a square at 6 feet and a bigger rectangle at 15 feet, these pics are at 6 feet, it smokes the wood at 6 feet and is a pretty as heck color, it's a crying shame we cant adjust the focus, maybe with some secondary lenses.

I have 4 more NUBM06 coming from china plus another from a friend, will post more pics, NICE CATCH ON THAT GREEN :gj: , I hope our supply will be more focused than unfocused as time goes on, but we will see.

That square does not look bad - maybe you could use this module to focus its spot with Sanwu 3x BE and no Cylindricals needed?

You have a very nice Al block there! I have been looking meanwhile and found some pieces having precise holes to compactly fit in new 20 and 35mm modules from DTR but maybe these can wait untill 10+W diodes appear...

BTW what is the meaning of phrase starting with Ytterbium?

WOW, I just got in 2 more NUBM06 and they focus to pretty much a line at 6 feet and widen a bit at 20 but they are not bad.

They are the pretty 455nm.....possibly 460nm, I don't have a spectro but they look amazing in color.

What's nice is putting one in a module and sticking it in to one of my easily rebuildable host and there is no 3 element to adjust, just a hollow one and push it into the heatsink and snug it down, lights the bag at 20 feet real nice.

I have to say this 455nm looks good, apparently they have evolved as the earlier ones looked more 445-450nm.

I like the shade of blue the 06 has, nice. On that host, is that a custom LED readout you added? Maybe you posted on it earlier and I missed it.

Yes I hack out a window and use that Gorilla brand hot glue to seal in the meters, they are little volt meters from ebay that I put in parallel with the driver input so I can see the battery voltage under load and know when it's time to recharge as well as the general health of the batteries, they come in different colors too. :)
p.s. There is a little pot on the back for adjustment, but they are all pretty well accurate as they come. Simple 2 wire hook up.
