Hacking PS3 To Use Linux Operating System

Has anyone done this before? I'm doing it now. Just wondering what you can do with it besides playing computer programs... The first thing I'll do is put all my other game emulators on it. Which I'm sure is totally illegal.

What emulator are you using? I have about 20GB of MAME roms.

I have a lot of different emulators (NES, Genesis, etc.), but most of them I got from Emulator-zone.com

yellow dog was made specifically for the ps3 so its pretty much the best for it. ubuntu sucked the last time i tried it but its still in "development" as far as the ps3 goes. theres a few other distro's out that are releasing versions for the ps3 as well.

It works really well! The internet is faster than the Xross version. But I think I'm going to have to switch to Ubuntu, because (after I got everything done) I heard that YDL has trouble playing emulators.

i bought a ps3 the day it came out, i got stuck with a 20 gig with no wifi but i put YDL on it no problem, you just need a usb drive along with the burnt dvd to install it. a usb keyboard/mouse helps a lot too. it was cool, it surfed the net, did files.. but i wasnt a linux nerd back then so i never figured anything out.

the best pro i can think of for it is to play .avi movie files at 720p or classic games if you can figure it out. i think i read an interview with linus and he said he had a ps3 running it he just never used it
