Hi everyone,
I just made an account in this forum because as you guys can probably guess, I'm interested with lasers and other fun toys.

My name is Matthew Renna and I'm currently a Junior at Windham Technical High School and the shop I'm in is Electronics, which is where my interest in these things started.

Currently, I'm just making a strong laser pointer that I can use to burn things and I just posted a thread asking questions on it.

So again, hello everyone and I hope you guys can answer all of my many questions.

Lasers are fun, but the ones you linked to in your other thread are not toys, and should be treated as carefully as you would a weapon. Think of a BB gun that is silent, and shoots invisible pellets that travel at the speed of light. They could easily seriously damage someone’s vision.

This is a good place to learn about lasers and the electronics associated with them. Make sure you utilize the search bar at the bottom of the page.

Are you aware you need to be 18 to join and post on LPF---is not a forum web site for minors for legal and other real reasons.

Agreed, doubtful he is 18 years old, but I was in high school, that happens when you spend three years in a row in first grade.

Point is to give a minor instructions and help with making something he hurts himself or others with is a possible legal problem for LPF and without any doubt on the irresponsible contributing a minor's ability to cause whatever problems or injuries arise from same.
If he is under 18 then he needs to get his parents permission to do whatever it is he wants to do---let them be responsible for whatever negative comes of his activities.


Other than that-----Welcome and enjoy the forum Matt Renna--be careful --take time to learn about lasers and laser safety first.

Welcome to the LPF, Matt. I hope you are able to learn much about how to use lasers safely. The rest will come later if you stick to it.
 
Welcome to LPF, Matt! There are many nice and knowledgeable people here who’ll be happy to listen and to help you whenever possible. Please take concerns of the very experienced laser designers and builders here seriously. Safety is always the chief focus of the forum, and it’s your responsibility to protect yourself and others from inflicting serious harm. Always use proper eye protection and never point a laser at any living thing. Burning requires very dangerously powerful lasers that can blind you for life faster than a human can blink. Have fun, but please remember to always be laser safe. Take Care. :D

.....yeah I'm under 18. I didn't see that rule.
