Green LD's are wayyy to expensive to buy because there is no real use for green laser diodes. Red laser diodes are cheap because they are widley used in DVD players and burners.
 
Yeah they have them but they are really expensive for how low power they are.

Well you would be putting them in an Axiz Module anyways probably so you could adjust that yourself. Hmmm -mRad green laser. Burn baby burn!
 
Why does it have residual IR? That sounds like a DPSS characteristic to me.

It is a DPSS characteristic because those aren't real green diodes, they are just really tiny DPSS greenies. Also, you cant just put those in a Aixiz module because those green "diodes" are too big for them.
 
Lets make this clear. GREEN DIODES DO NOT EXIST. THEY ARE DPSS GREEN IN A DIODE CAN. The technology to make native green laser diodes does not exist, or if it does is mindblowingly expensive, so much so that it is simply no use.

That won't happen until they find a use for green diode lasers, hopefully that will be soon though.
 
Yeah, as said those are small DPSS modules. You cannot really buy green diodes. Technology has been demonstrated for green direct injected laser diodes, but they aren't practical - extremely short (<1 hour I believe) lifetimes for one.

The 7 and 9mRad divergence on those small DPSS units is because of the very small beam diameter. Collimated to the same diameter of a regular pointer, it will have the divergence of a regular pointer.

Green laser diodes will exist someday. We've seen violets come out, 440nms are on their way, green will likely be next. Fully direct-injected RGB displays, holographic discs, etc will all love that. Don't expect it very soon though, it'll be at least a couple of years out before green diodes will be easy to obtain, and who knows how long before they will become cheap and powerful.

Also, keep in mind that (at least in the side-emitters we use now) we're hitting the limits of single mode diodes in the 200-300mW range. If you want a red with half-decent beam specs past that range, its gunna be a gas or DPSS red, not a diode. A 200mW blue or green diode will be awesome, but keep in mind that diodes have their limits too!
