While I'm asking questions, what about a source for a good cw hand held/portable compact 473nm unit? Only needs about 5mW but hopefully nearly CW operation...

What I really need is a compact solid state source near 500nm but I'm not finding a lot out there that fits that description?

well an argon would probably work nicely for that but it's hardly compact - optotronics sells their blue RPLs, and many companies sell lab lasers such as lasershowparts, oem laser systems, etc

How "near 500nm" do you need?

532nm green lab modules are plentiful and cheap... 473nm, not so much so.

He needs handheld

d'oh! I have no clue where I got the idea he needed a labby. I need to quit late night posting. >.<

Hmmm, yes I've dealt with crystal laser before, good products. I need something very compact at 470-500nm which is why I'm eyeing th 473nm laser diodes even if they are a silly price and not available.

yeah, from what i understand, 473nm diodes are nearly impossible to buy, and even if you do get that far, insanely expensive.
