everyone is posting something so I'll post too.

Have a read and understand how it works, it will help you. Just don't wire it like a 'constant voltage regulator', as the example says. Wire it like midias said.

Not to be nitpicking, but where's the switch? I've been following this thread because I want to build a driver and am in the process of gathering materials.

So i have the materials to redo this whole thing, I think im just going to start over. What size cap should i use?

You should search some info in the forum rather than asking ;)
some say 10uF >12v is enough.

Can anyone think of another item that has a driver in it that i could steal on out of?

for 445 diodes you can steal from LED flashlights. I could send you a LM317 driver if you want I found one in my car recently I can just swap the resistor for 390ma like yours and you can study it.

If it is configured like you saw on the diagrams (constant current) he will be outputing how much your diode needs.

No thanks, i think id like to get this one on my own. What does a 445 diode do?

This is absurd. I have an lm317, a 1 ohm and a 2.2 ohm resisitor, a selection of capacitors, a diode, and some special bats. So why is this so hard to do?

So why cant i just put two AA bateries on it and then wire a cap in paralel and put 8 ohms resistence to manage the current?

You can. You just should not. When the diode heats or get old, he starts draining more current and will blow up...

YOU NEED a constant current source, like the LM317, the rckstr driver, the Jib driver, the Dr. Lava drivers, etc.
