glass or plastic

I have been using the Aixiz coated glass lenses on my Blu-Ray builds.

The coating will still be fairly effective @ 405 nm.
Reflection will be less than any uncoated lens.

I don't have a power meter yet, but burning at close range is quicker with the glass lenses.

Meridith is even better since it is a shorter focal length.

I do have about 6 new glass lenses I'm testing.

One looks very promising.

Edit: Jayrob also has found a 4mm FL lens that beats the Meridith.

You can also use the lens from the sled and its already AR coated for 405nm, look up the thread in tutorials.

I found that thread some time ago, but now, i cannot find it again... can you post the link where is described procedure regarding how to use lens from phr/gbw sled?

Update:

I just sampled a glass lens for 405nm that is excellent. But it is expensive. And it needs to be custom mounted into an AixiZ glass lens nut. (modified) So, waiting for Igor's GB is still the best bet. I want to compare the best lens he found with these though...

This is an excellent blu-ray glass lens that gives a very nice dot, and about 26% increase in power over AixiZ acrylic! :o

Jayrob;

I think that you and I are testing the same lens.

Mine is the same diameter, back focal length, NA, and low-loss @ 400-600 nm.

I have been getting very good results as well.

I expect to be buying some more of them. 8-)

Yes, someone else told me about the supplier. And there is a good price break if you buy 50 to 100, but I don't want to do that. Because I respect Igor and he did a lot of R&D to find the right lenses...

Plus, I believe he is going to have them pre-mounted in a nut fit for AixiZ.

What I am offering is expensive. That is, the cost in parts alone is about $45 bucks. I will be making about $15 dollars for the AixiZ glass lens nut modification and custom spacer.

So I don't expect too many people to ask me to do the mod because of the price. And the few that do, should not really impact Igor's upcoming GB...
