GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL!!!

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

hmmm now i wonder what i should set my next one at :)

anyone have suggestions? im thinking just a little lower at 180ma.

we need more people doing some long term tests :)

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

Yeah, i will start it as soon as i get these.. I would like to do more than two, but i can't afford it for now. So i'm grateful for your contribution.

I think 180mA might be a good idea, but make sure the power isn't climbing. It wasn't the 200mA that killed it, it was the >191mW (191 + losses in lens + reflections)!

If you have a way, monitor the current and the Vf, so that if the power should start climbing, you can verify, that the current is constant and the Vf dropping a bit as the diode warms up.

If the power climb is just occasional, like with the PHRs, then it is unlikelly for it to happen twice in a row. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

Has anyone worked out a safe current to run these at? with without heatsink.

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

I put one in an older "working" host I had here.  It has a Merideth glass lens.  The flexdrive is set at 210mA. It is putting out 178mW.

@ IgorT -- I pulled a PHR out of this host so I was able to compare the actual difference between the "spots" of this diode and the PHR.  The spot with this diode and the Merideth is better than the PHR and the Merideth.  There is not nearly as much of the "crystal" outline showing.  Although there are no definite "wings", it looks like this lens needs cleaned.  :-[  That's what happens when you use the same laser (set at a low power) to set  up and align your work for a long time.  :-/

It is still a few hours until dark here :(

Peace,
dave

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

well i tried to measure the current to the laser while i was testing it but i couldnt get the ddm in line with the positive method to work at all.

i dont get any readind when my meters set to ma's

any ideas?

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

ok, i must be retarded.... I'm on the batch 3 list for 2 sleds, and for the life of me i can't figure out how or where to pay! :-?

Wait, you are putting the DMM in series with the load, using a current measuring range, and no current shows up on the meter, but the diode works?!?

Are you connecting it correctly?

If the diode doesn't work either, when you do this, then the fuse inside the DMM is blown.

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

i tied this once the diode was blown.

ill try later with a good one

have you been reading the thread? I think not. I have said the link 2 times now.

If you read the thread regularly then you will not have troubles paying.

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

So would it be SAFE to run one of these at 200ma or should i go down a little?

There are many of us whose lives do not revolve around this thread, thank you! I requested to buy 2 sleds from your GB, i have skimmed throughout this thread and obviously missed your links. I do not have time to sit here and read all 31 pages of this thread. Thank you for the link.

there is no need to read 31 pages. just 3 or 4.

This is no store. This is a group effort. you are not requesting to buy anything from this GB, you are participating to make these sleds available to the community, which would include you.

Sorry that I jumped at you, but due to some idiots after round 1 who could not follow directions (non-forum members) I have to make the link "hidden". Sorry for the inconvenience.

amk

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

Thank you for the apology, I was a bit offended, but all is good now. 8-)

Making payment now. ;)

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

Hey amk thanks for the -Rep and lying to me. laser-jp sent me and lots of others the same email stating the price for the 6x lens is 42$ usd. You said you aren't making one penny out of this.... BS, Yes you are. Heres a screenshot to prove it dude. you just might wanna check before you -rep me for no apparent reason.

If your diode stays put at 160-170mW, it could be "safe". If it starts climbing, like two have so far, it will kill itself.

No one will know what is safe, untill we find a power they can take continously for at least several days. And even that would only hold true for those diodes, that don't climb in power with heat.

It's funny, but a diode that climbs with heat would survive inside a Blu Ray writer drive, because there they are driven at a constant power. If it suddenly starts putting out more, the driver will simply lower the current.

Payment sent, and thank you for this opportunity!
