You must have one dusty house bro. I never have any issues mounting them without getting dust on them. To clean my G2s I use windex for the most part because its easy to get a hold of but high concentration isopropyl alcohol works even better if I have it around. I found that the easiest way to clean them well is to pop them out of the barrel as well.

Teflon tape bro. That white tape used in pipes so the water won't leak by the threads.

If you wrap some of this on a q-tip (remove cotton first) or even a toothpick, you can polish the lens, removing dust, etc...

I have to admit that is the strangest use for teflon tape I have heard yet. Don't get me wrong it could very well work I have no clue. Its just sounds very strange. I would imagine everyone has Windex or some other nearly identical window cleaner around already though.

That reminds me, I need to grab myself a new bottle of 91% isopropyl.

Anyways I don't even recall where I did. I just do that since I started the hobby...
I clean even diodes windows If accidentally touched...

:thinking: I thought more people would know that teflon tape is a great lens polisher...

And I'd never risk rubbing a window cleaner to my G1/G2 lens (If I had one). You never know what kind of chemicals you could have there... (not wanna damage the coated optics, windows aren't coated...)

Yeah that's not a particularly wide used trick. I'm not sure how well just teflon tape would actually take the dust with it rather than mostly push it off to the edges of the mount the lens is in. I may try some time though. I do see a possible use for it for the tricky to reach lenses that cannot be removed like in most pen lasers and 532nm pointers. Isopropyl alcohol works extremely well and is the most common method. Not to mention a giant bottle is very cheap and would last years.

Windex is a general window cleaner that's usually blueish and is known for not leaving residue behind. It leaves AR coatings on lenses looking very clean and bright just like isopropyl.

I'll see if I can get any. Isopropyl alcohol is getting harder to come by here in BR because some one got his house on fire using alcohol (it were pretty cold here), so ethyl, methanol and iso are forbidden > 50% concentration. :cryyy:
The teflon is kinda in a "polisher" task, I clean my lens with cotton first.

I'll look for window cleaners... Maybe I'll look into windex's composition and see if I can source something here... Maybe its easier than polishing lens with teflon :beer:
Anyways teflon works perfect for diodes windows... Anyways I decan all of mine when not violet/blue diodes.

I asked DTR and he said he can't organize any kind of GB, but he can supply barrels for the lens (look his site). Just in case someone jump in and buy the lens (or start a GB...) :beer:

also, for anybody still using acrylic lenses, acrylic + alcohols = bad

about that "deal," and really, ###-G-# in general. Wasn't it just some enterprising seller somewhere that coined those lens names? These are basically small aspherics with properties we like, dimensions that work with our current hardware, and coatings that benefit the diodes we use?

Also, that's partly my reasoning for using Windex since its pretty much safe for all types of lenses and AR coatings AFAIK.

I think the G1/G2 name originated from a model number for the 405-G-1 lens and it was carried over to the newer G2 for simplicity.

I thought it was jayrob (or laser66 named them?) back before the 445s were around he got a lens coated for 405. 405-G-1, where 405 is the wavelength its for, G is for glass, and 1 is for the first model. Then there was the g2 and the 650g1 and I believe there was a g3 that was scrapped because it wasn't as good. I coined g9 for the 9mm diode lens following the scheme of g1 and g2.

Anyways, I would be VERY careful getting lenses from those chinese sellers, I have a feeling they might be the unusable lenses coming in the new 9mm diode projectors. They are essential the same as the original a140 lenses from what I've seen. (Which suck, for those who weren't around back then)
