Ouch! That ELX's 7% VLT is terrible. Plus at OD7 (from the graph) you won't see anything of the blue (it is nice to be able to see
something, just not harmful or irritating amounts). At that price ($140) you could spend somewhat more to buy an
ARG and second pair (like a
KRR) for ($80 + $101 = $180 = $40 more), and better protection at 635nm (OD5+) where we'll more than likely see higher powers. Much better VLT at both (48% and 18%).
Those broadbands are nice, if you really need them, but swapping goggles might actually be nicer for ergonomics. The main reason I got those ML7s is that it blocks IR in addition to 532nm. The red protection is pretty weak (150mW or so). Otherwise, it's not all that great for general use because of the low VLT (13%), and I'd much rather wear my
YLWs if I could (73% VLT, $101).
I've been really prizing VLT these days, and it's a reason I'm going for an
RB2 (35%) instead of a
KRR (18%) or
DY2 (14%). The DY2 is also more expensive than the RB2 ($157 vs $119); however, the RB2 is more than the KRR ($101). I'm okay with only OD3+ for 635nm on the RB2. I can use up to 5W lasers with that.
