Gas Lasers.....Lovely, Lovely Gas Lasers.

Lots of pictures of my ions running...but some of them might just blow your mind!

Same here. Although it's not glass. It's actually a fused Quartz, much like HeCd lasers use to cope with the heat.

Mind blown! :D

If we're going to be picky, technically it is glass as Fused Quartz is a form of glass. ;)

Evening all,

I trust everyone is well?

I have been reading through this thread with great interest. Some of the Gas lasers here are truly exceptional bits of kit. Myself; I've only just got my hands on some Argon-ion laser heads and associated gear and after what I've seen here, i'm going to be upping my collection on Gas Laser methinks....

This evening antics have been around finally repairing the JDS Uniphase 2500 Remote interface unit for my 2214B PSU. Before all this I was using an assortment of DB25 dongles to achieve what I wanted....

I'm pleased to say, the 2500 remote interface is working well and allowing the argon Laser to heat up my room nicely as well making the wall socket get rather warm.

Now I must get onto repairing my SP161 argon next..... That'll be fun

Your Argon looks nice! It must be nice having a proper controller for it. I just have a knob on the front of the PSU! :p I know the struggle with DB25 dongles ...

Good luck with the 161 repair!

I don't know what would you say to a 13 line whitelight shot? I hate to tease but I can't post pics at work.

Well technically speaking yes, that's true....but it has drastically different properties than regular 'glass'.

I'd love to see a 13 line whitelight shot! :D

Can we call it super-glass and leave it at that? :p

Damn that's a nice laser! What a lovely white. I see you have the yellow line in there, nice!

Not too bad for such a fairly old tube. Depending on the mirrors I can pull all sorts of different things out of this Laser. Last time I did this experiment it only gave me 8-9 lines, now it gets 12-13. It's definitely recovering nicely from it's long hibernation.

13 lines? Damn I can only get 12.* The pics inspired me to take a few with my new D7100 before I put my big argon back in storage and man does it blow the socks off my old D90. Too bad all six lines don't show up in the pic. I'll probably post a few more in the multimedia forum if I have time to get out a few of my other gas lasers this weekend.

*when I run both ML Argons at once!

That's quite a photon spread! Gorgeous pic! yeah I've made 543 heads sing quite an array too, but I haven't got quite as good an array of mirrors for them as I do for the 643 heads, but some of those argon only heads will do pretty amazing things too. the x43s are fairly big for air-cooled lasers so they can sometimes be made to do quite a lot. a couple of the lines I was getting i'm surprised I got, and probably only can be seen since i'm using a reflective 1200line/mm laboratory grating, not a 'cheaper' one from a place like DL.

I enjoy this thread.

Fresh gas pron.

I remember pulling in the ballpark of 12 lines I believe when I external-ed my whitelight. Kept the 5 initial blue lines, the 568, and the 647. Added 2-3 more blues, 496, 501, and two green lines. She was really cooking with oil that one.

Just used an ML Ar HR. The the external resonance was a lovely sight.

If your HeCad is moving Cadmium down the bore in visible amounts it needs the power supply adjusted to prevent "gulping".

Hmm, good to know, thanks! Something I'll look into if I ever get that HeCd back or get a hold of another one.

Yes. It's quite something to see. I used a second white light OC in my case. I've also got good results with a green helium neon HR.
