Close. Has to do with surveying. Carpenters know these well, well older ones would recognize this design more readily, the newer models look quite different.

Close enough. It's a builders transit for property surveying before building a home/staking out the corners of the home. I got to play with one last year, loads of fun. (An older one with lenses like the picture above, not a fancy new one)

My bad it's a Berger!!!!!! I rebuilt one when I used to work as a optical instrument repair technician in the late 90s..So I guess I had inside knowledge...PASS
