Hi Guys, I know there has been a lot of threads recently re scanners, but I need a decision for the two I have narrowed down to.

I am building a scanner, I have the following items already (or ordered):

* 300mW 532nm DPSS TEC labbie
* AUDIOLASE
* C-Media USB sound card
* LFI Player

I am trying to decide on a set of galvos. Currently I have the following in my sights:

SCANLSP-30 30k Scanner Laser Show Galvo for DPSS Argon - eBay Industrial Lasers, Lighting Lasers, Industrial Supply MRO, Business Industrial. (end time 03-Sep-10 19:58:32 AEST)

Galvo(scanning) system ILDA30K Max50k for Laser systems - eBay (item 290461514992 end time Aug-16-10 05:37:32 PDT)

The 2nd one being PT-30K from Spacelas (Phenix Technology as they are now branded).

I am mostly interested in beam scanning. Of these two, which do you think would be best in terms of performance AND reliability?

Thanks in advance.

Wayne.

Hmmmm. I have been offered a new set of DT30's on PL.

Pondering the additional cost, is it worth it...

My late father once told me that "quality remains long after you forget what it cost"...

Are the DT30's 50% better than the SCANLSP's? That is the question.

If you are interested in just beams not images or animations i think 30ks are a bit much a set of 20k should last a good long time not to mention 20k can be tuned to get around 32k with a 5 deg angle.
I did perfect beam shows and simple pictures with a set of 15k galvos.
They were cheap i just sold them for under 90 shipped.
But if you are in it for animations and drawing then those will do fine maybe some better performance mirrors but thats later down the line.
Get the second set look at the scan angles.
30kpps ILDA at 8-10 degrees (first link)
+/-20 degrees 30,000pps(Factory setting) (second link)
The first set from aijii could be a set of 20k galvos with HP mirrors and tuned to get 30k at around 8-10deg
And the second set is a true set of 30ks that get the true 30k at 20deg and 50k at 5 deg.

I don't know about 50% better, since they are all just Chinese galvo sets, but I would consider them to be superior in general yes.

Ok. Well a few glasses of Shiraz and a big think (tm) later, I think the DT's are my choice... I'll sleep on it and decide tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone for your opinions.

the nice thing about the space-las ones they come with an extra set of mirrors.
But EF when you look at the 2 set am i correct in saying the Space-las scan 30k at a larger angle than the Laser Show Parts galvos.
And the Space-las are capable of higher speeds.

They're the exact same set by the exact same manufacturer. Any discrepancy in the specs (if there is any, I didn't check) is purely on the vendor. I would assume that since Spacelas provides replacement mirrors that lasershowparts does also since I doubt they'd remove them. Personally I'd go with what Spacelas says since they are the manufacturer.

Are there any high performance mirrors for galvos and if so know where to get them?

Define high-performance.. typically that would simply mean smaller, and unless you're using a single DPSS or ion laser smaller mirrors will only cause higher losses since big direct diode beams will spill off the sides.

Are you comparing the Spacelas units with DT30's? If so, not according to Dave from PL...

Well I have decided to spent the extra and go for DT30's.

Thanks to all that have commented and offered advice.

Wayne.
