Up for sale are some power supplies for Ophir heads. These have adjustable regulators so that you can adjust the voltages to suit your Ophir head. This is a good replacement for 9V batteries.

Input: 4.5V-5.5VDC or 6.7V-30VDC (The regulator may require heat sinking at higher voltages)
Output: +/- 5-13VDC
Dimensions: 49mm x 27mm x 14mm

This can be used with a multimeter or voltmeter display to read the laser power from the Ophir head.

Instructions:
1) Hook up to suitable power source.
2) Measure voltages between POS and VGND, set it as desired with R6.
3) Measure voltages between NEG and VGND, set it with R5 to measure the same as the positive voltage.
4) Disconnect power source
5) Hook up the Ophir head.
6) Repeat step 1, 2 & 3.

I really don't understand the point for this head.... To avoid using 2 9V batteries? I mean 30 cnd buy a lot of 9V batteries... maybe I am just not seeing it clearly... but someone might elighten me.
 
This would allow you to build it into one unit and use one set of batteries or on DC plug to power both the Ophir and readout display.

Nobody is forcing you to buy it :) Go ahead and use 9V batteries if you want, both will work! Also keep in mind out of that 30$ I only keep about ~21$ from sales; the rest go to PP, income tax and shipping.

The advantage I see with this are:
-Using only one battery
-Ability to run off of a wall wart
-Not having to worry about the voltages of the 9V batteries
-Easier to set up than two 9V batteries and a DPST switch
-Ability to zero out your Ophir head correctly with adjustable voltages (Mine zeros out at +/-7v)
 
Ok I am starting to understand I could also use a lipo battery, or a rechargeable of some kind... Now it's starting to make sense....

Now a question if the battery changes the voltage while its discharging will this thing keep the voltage constant?

Looks great ARG! Definitely better than 9 volts.

If I had an ophir Id buy one :)

Yup, the output will not change when the battery voltage changes.

Is the Output Isolated from the Input ???
Is there an output for driving an LED Display???
