Thanks!

hugoalo, I am sending your 3405 custom DDL 'Hot' option kit today. (Friday)

It is just like the one I built for Dave...

The driver is set to 400mA. It uses a 100ohm, 4 turn, 1/2 watt pot, it is a nice driver for any current between 12.5mA's and 400mA's... (it can adjust higher, because there is no series resistor in the circuit, but it is only rated for a max of 400mA's per ohms law)

I'm guessing this is for a 12X build??

Should be nice!

My 3045/HS combo arrived yesterday, in great shape. As always,,,,,excellent work:)

Cheers,
Ray

Thanks! Glad you like it! :)

Hathred, I am sending your 3405 version 1 'Hot' option kit today. (Thursday)

It is set at 120mA's per your request.

Hope you like it!

Update: The newest and latest 4171 hosts from DX, are a completely different style that the 'old style', and the 'new style' shown in my first post.

They can take 2 X CR123, but the batteries would need a sleeve, because the host will fit an 18650. Also, the heatsink is completely different. It has a cone shape at the bottom to fit this host. It is a massive heatsink. And I will only be offering one style. (shown in picture)

This 'newest' 4171 host also has the head glued onto the host. But the pill can be removed (unscrewed) without removing the head. It has plenty of room for a full length AixiZ module if you are using a rkcstr driver...

So if ordering a heatsink for a 4171, please take note of the two styles shown below. And of this 'newest' style. I need to know which one you have.

The heatsinks for this latest style, will be a larger diameter material, and have a cone shape at the bottom to fit this host. They are a little more work to make, and will be $25 dollars each. Plus $3 dollars shipping...

Hope your build goes well!

Jay, I am new to the forum and I would like to order one of your 3405 host kits(that should be the 3/AAA version) with the lead wires installed and one of your 405-G-1 glass lens kits for a GGW 6x Blu-Ray/AixiZ/rkcstr build. How do I order from you?

Hey LPF community!

I have been in and around electronics since the mid 60's and thats my business today. I built my first laser in the early 80's and I still have that HE-Ne today.
High Voltage and lasers are in my book listed under FUN
so when I happened upon this forum two months ago it didn't take long to
want some more. so after some forum reasearch I was off!
My first venture was a Sony 16x on a rickstr drive set to 350ma in an AixiZ module, this I fitted into a modified CATV line connector as a heat sink.
And then I put it in a Ultrafire WF-501B host, it was great to finally see
something burn on my own bench! For my second and third build I decided to go more mainstream and went with a Jayrob custom heat sink and decided to go with the now changed 4171 host. One would be a SF-AW210 on a Flex drive at 189ma and the other a 20x red on a rickstr at 440ma. I chose this host because I don't really care much for AA and AAA cells (except LD-NIMH's) but Li-Ion cells were made for this job! and that host can work two voltages and two drivers (two CR-123's and a rickstr or one 18650 and a Flex drive) so the best of both worlds, not to mention the large size of the heat sink, and its large enough for the Aixiz module with either driver board inside directly on the diode!

Now to the build, the 4171 pill screws out easily from the host and is a brass threaded tube with the LED board on one end and the LED driver/upper spring board on the other. I pried off the LED board from the top and the spring/driver board needs to be un-soldered from the bottom of the brass
tube. Now using the iron I removed all the parts from the driver board as
it doubles as the spring board, then I soldered the leads from the AixiZ
module to feed thru holes in the board, one - and one + then re-soldered the board back onto the brass tube. Now to finish, screw the tube back into
the host, tighten the setscrew in the Jayrob heatsink down on the AixiZ
module and screw it all together!

I have included pictures of the build and some interesting macros of the diffraction rings around a spec of dust inside of a stock AixiZ glass lens.
They were taken from 2.5" away from my projector screen and the SF-AW210 laser was 25' from the screen, I masked out the main focal
point to make it show better.

Thanks Jayrob

Jim

Nice little tutorial... Thanks for posting back with those pictures!

This shows good pictures of the 'newest' 4171 from DX, and how the head is 'funnel' shaped on the inside. This is why I had to re-design the heatsink to a cone shape, in order for it to fit properly...

Good job on your builds! :gj:

One little suggestion... If you want the 'full length' module to sit flush with the face of the heatsink (except for the little focus ring), there would be room if you opened up the top of the pill. Either by drilling it out, or by grinding it out with a Dremel or something similar.

The set screw location is positioned so that it will hold the module in the thick part of the module, near where the diode is pressed. With a FlexDrive build, you do not use the back 'barrel' part of the module.

Just mount the FlexDrive flat on top of the pill (or inside the pill), and then use the front 'business end' of the module, mounted flush with the face of the heatsink...

Just a suggestion, because besides looks, the heatsinking will be better. Having the module flush with the face of the heatsink...

I have them out for a reason, focus is way easier for big fingers and the heatsink
is so efficient it doesn't matter to me.
Also this host provides plenty of room for any placement of the module.....:D

Oh ok... It's mostly a matter of preference...
