You buy a RPL-500 as new and when it come, all scratched up, paint not matching each parts, threads badly made... Its not like you were buying a 500mW from a company in china... For the price you pay, at least expect something good looking & having a long life.

Sounds personal.

That sensor is worth at least $250 if not more. There are issues with the cheaper LPMs that use Peltier coolers but I wont get into that because I'll get pounced. I think Ken's meter is worth the price personally. I'd buy it but I already have a Kenometer Pro.

^^^^ FYI... that sensor is an old Surplus Coherent head that cost
$34.95 on eBay a few years ago...
I know because my old Kenometer has the same Coherent Head..

Did you by any chance do comparative tests with your Newport LPM? I'm interested in this (for the sensor) and I'd love more info in terms of calibration. :)

That being said, $450 is a great deal on that PRO, I'd love to buy it... Though I'd leave it as is... Its magnificent meter, and I would be proud to own it. Good luck guys, and no0bs: Kenom is a grade A++ seller, he always gives 110% and ships fast too.

with comments like the ones from ranged and folks wonder why I'm leaving?? Really? I sold these meters just like this without the graphing capability and other stuff for $200. How is it any stretch of the imagination that if I add a graphical display, mcu and the ability to plug into a pc, that it should not take the value of the meter up? Ranged will be going into my ever increasing list of ignored members and his obvious insulting offer will be totally ignored and disregarded. I will consider $400 for the meter however, that would be between whomever is actually seriously interested in this meter and myself.

Kenom, I didn't know you too well, we had a convo here and there, but from what I have seen you are a great guy, I am saddened to see you leave and if it because people like rangedunits, I feel very sorry for you and him. :(

Well Ken, I've seen you a lot over the past three years, and I believe I only spoke to you once telling you a deal about 1" Uranium Marbles. Good luck with whatever's going on.

Aside though, I think it wouldn't be too hard, and would probably help your sale a great deal if you could spiffy up the look by using a new plastic enclosure. If putting it in a new $4 project box (plus an hr or two of labor) could help you sell a >$400 item, chances are it's worth it. I'm sure you could always fall back on Ebay as well... (and post pictures of the screen, screen shots of the PC software, etc.) You never know, you may get over $500 if you really market the thing (a >10W Precision LPM with Graphic Display, and PC Software... that could sound very appealing to a professional.)

I don't have an opinion one way or the other about the value of the offered LPM, but as a collector in several different fields, I just have a modest comment to contribute.

If the offered LPM has interesting, historic value as an artifact of the history of LPF, or the development of technology for LPF, or has value for it's construction and use by a notable LPF contributor, then it could be thought of as a collectible. The last thing that you want to do with a collectible is to improve it or "clean it up".

For example, if you had an original Civil War rifle with some rust spots and dings in the stock, the last thing you would want to do is to sand down and refinish the stock to "improve" it, or sand and cold-blue the rust spots.

If you had one of John Garand's tools in original condition that he used in the Springfield Armory, the last thing that you would want to do is to try to "improve" it by cleaning it up.

Is this LPM in the category of a LPF collectible?

I am not smart enough to know that, but just something to consider.

It could be construed as a collectible only if someone wanted the literal very first Kenometer I ever built. I kept the baby as my own, and only just recently added the graphing capability to the meter.

If someone is truly that concerned about the minor dings on the exterior face, it is very easy to print up a adhesive label to put over the face to cover any blemishes. Honestly, it's not that big of a deal to me. This was my own personal meter and no matter what condition it arrives in (new enclosure) it will very shortly get to look like this one with laser burn marks and so forth. The face was cut up the way it is with the intention of putting an overlay over the front face anyway. Nobody wants to see the holes, just the screen.

You're comparing a used LPM to war relics?

Man some of you people are fried. At least I know I'm fried.

Its a used LPM from a member of a laser forum. Nothing more.

I do agree that putting it in a new box will give you a better chances of getting the price you want. It looks like a kid put it together.
