@Jay

I picked up what I suspect is one of your assembled kits off of another member here.

Quick question, seems to run more or less equally well off of one 18650 or 2x 16340 or 2x 18350 batteries.

What is driver supposed to work with best?

It depends on what driver is installed...

Many of my kits are not purchased with the 'Hot' option shown in the first post. So it is possible that the person you bought it from, had a linear driver in there. Or some other driver rather than the FlexDrive shown here in this thread.

If it's a Jib driver, then you want 2 X Li-Ion's. If it's a FlexDrive, then you want a single 18650...

If it's a flex drive, would using two 18350 batteries damage it or just cause it to produce more heat?

It would damage it if it is much more than 5.5 volts total input...

Thanks for the info.

Although now I'm more confused... driver already handled 8.4v, two freshly charged 18350 batteries each at 4.2v just fine, with about 10 minutes of total run time off of those batteries.

I thought it was a linear driver... so originally used the 18350 batteries. Only found it to work almost equally as well with a 18650 battery, when playing around with the lpm last night out of curiosity.

I have another c6 build which is a linear jib and while it does ~1.2W with two 3.7v batteries, it puts out a <100mW with one 18650 battery.

Might just have to crack this laser open to see what's in there.

It wouldn't surprise me, because they seem to be such an amazing driver in such a tiny package.

If it did hold up under that extra input voltage, I still would not recommend continuing it. I'd go with an 18650 supply if it is a FlexDrive...

Actually just heard back from LockSmithaArmy.

He doesn't know what driver is in there either, says you built it:confused:

I sounds like he used two 16340 batteries, and also didn't notice any difference vs using one 18650.

Will LPM this laser as soon as batteries charge with both 18650 and 18350 batteries.

Well... My luck ran out:(

At least got an interesting experience out of it. As I was twisting on the tailcap the laser lased... even though the tailcap was in the off position. Once I twisted it on, and clicked it, that was it.

Obviously didn't lpm it, but it did leave a mark on my white wall, 3 feet away. Last laser to do that was an 800mW 405nm.

I opened it up, slight smell of burned electronics. Hopefully the diode is fine and I just killed the driver.

I guess before the driver was able to handle the increased voltage.. but not with the batteries freshly charged.

I'll post in that thread tomorrow.

I knew going in that there was risk I could kill the driver, but even so, disappointing. I was really hoping I found a true freak laser.

Do you think you could make this with a copper press fit HS for 3.8mm diodes? I'd like to get one for a 510nm build.
