FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! 445nm, Blu-ray, or Red...

Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! Blu-ray or Red...

I got the host Saturday. Now this is more like it. The double sided tape almost came loose but that was an easy fix. I have to say I like this a lot. I have to wait for the batteries to come in to test it out. Oh boy 320ma here we go!

Must have been some grease or something on the top of the pill that I didn't wipe clean before I used the double sided tape to adhere the FlexDrive...

I've always used this same method to mount FlexDrives and have never had a problem with it. I'm sure once it runs and the driver warms the tape a little, it will stick there for good.

Richo, I charge the same for my shipping and handling worldwide - $6 dollars.

Out of U.S. buyer assumes responsibility at that price. It should not be a problem though... (I would mark the package as a gift, with a description of 'LED Flashlight' with a low value of $15)

So the total will just depend on options. (see first post) Sending PM...

Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! Blu-ray or Red...

The FlexDrive aims to output the total current it is set to no matter what it is connected to (this is what current-source means), and will continue to raise the voltage output until it does so. However, air isn't conductive enough to pass this set level of current (unless it is at a ridiculous level, maybe 2,000V), so the voltage increases way above the rated capacity of the chip (6.2V), until it fries itself and dies. That is why you risk killing a FlexDrive if you don't power it up with a load. In reality, the chip has a thermal limiter and may have other protection, so you can't say for sure whether it will die or not.

Sorry if this is a little late to help...

But electricity won't go anywhere unless it has a complete circuit. The flex drive must be sending the power in circles.

Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! Blu-ray or Red...

Scotoma, I sent your 18650 kit, your Side button kit, and other item today. (Monday)

Let me know which kit you like better between the two! :)

Michi1328, I am sending your 18650 'Hot' option kit (and other items) today. (Tuesday)

Set at 170mA's per your request...

Hope you like it!

Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! Blu-ray or Red...

Hey jayrob,

Do you have any host kits on hand?

I'll be able to send payment through in the next few days.

Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! Blu-ray or Red...

Yes! I have them...

Just PM me when your ready! :)

Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! Blu-ray or Red...

Alright then, I'll grab one and a marble too.

PM sent.

Thanks.

Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! Blu-ray or Red...

I've got them! Never got your PM though...

Tmar, congratulations on the raffle drawing!

I am sending your 18650 kit today. (Friday)

Hope you like the kit! :)

Got it last Wednesday or so, looks awesome, thanks

Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! Blu-ray or Red...

Your welcome!

aXit, I sent your 18650 kit and 1" uranium marble today. (Thursday)

Hope you like it!

Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! Blu-ray or Red...

Hey jayrob, it arrived yesterday.

Done all the driver board modification, now just waiting for drivers and diodes. -_-

Nice machining, the whole build looks really clean.

Thanks jayrob.

Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! Blu-ray or Red...

Hey glad you like it! Post some pictures when you get it done! :)

denton808, I am sending your 18650 'Hot' option kit (and other items) today. (Tuesday)

I have the driver set at 320mA's per your request. Hope your 8X build goes well! Or is it a 12X?

Please post pictures with the EzFocus adapter installed. It looks so sweet with this build...

Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! Blu-ray or Red...

ok my host came in and i love it. ok stupid me did a test run of the focus with out the front cover and i twisted the wires inside. (noob to hosts) -_- don't worry it still works good. i love how the front cover fits just right and actually stops the heat sink from moving. (kinda wondering how that works so i know what to look for when it comes to wear and tear on that part... is it just so tight a fit that friction stops the heat sink from moving?)

i love how the heat sink fits snugly in place in general... that means more contact with the host and every little bit of heat dissipation is a plus.

what do you think the duty cycle should be? do you think that waiting til the ez focus ring gets very warm is too much strain? the laser definitely ain't dimming after that time nor does it seem like it's straining so i've kinda set that limit as a max til i am informed otherwise. i assume a 320 ma setting isn't 100% duty cycle right? lol. do you think as long as the focus ring isn't too hot to touch it should be safe for the diode or does it not work that way? lol >.<

of course the body feels like any other body cuz it's just a flashlight. the overall look is as to be expected with the pics jayrob already posted of his build.

i dunno the power of my laser, but it's 320 ma driver (set by jayrob) for a 8x diode from new egg blu ray burner :) it burns my black sub woofer and smokes a crap load. lol. it is even powerful enough to burn white paper. my 150mw chrome focusable from o-like can't do that... so the power this one is generating must be quite substantial.

as for the lens... i love it. i dunno how fully infinite the focus is, but seems like when i fully twist the lens on to the aixiz housing the beam is set to infinity. I 100% love this fact because i dont have to keep finding that focus, i can just turn it all one way. then if i want to focus at other ranges i just twist it. no matter where my hobby goes, i will keep your lens... it's truly an awesome one.

overall the build quality is great and met my expectations 100%. A+ and recommended to everyone :) sorry for the questions in between my comments, hopefully it's not too much trouble to answer >.<

Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! Blu-ray or Red...

Thanks for posting about your build!

Be careful with that thing! With my 405-G-1 lens, it is putting out over 400mW's I'm sure at that current...

Watch out for reflections that will damage your eyes.

About your heatsink question. It is sized just right, so that with the retaining ring of the host screwed down, it 'clamps' down onto the heatsink to hold it with contact to the host.

My tolerance for this fit is + or - .002 thousandth's of an inch. You see, if it is too long, there would be a noticable gap where the retaining ring meets the head of the host. Too short, and it will not hold the heatsink.

About duty cycle. I have read that Igor has theories that duty may not really be as needed as we have been using it. But I have always used a 1 min. on / 1 min. off duty cycle from being used to that using green pointers.

So I say, it can't hurt right? Especially with a 'HOT' diode like an 8X at 320mA's. But the heatsinking of this build is plenty...

P.S. If your EzFocus adapter 'bottom's out' at the face of your host before you can get a longer distance focus, then there is some room for adjustment by the position of your module inside the heatsink. This module position can be an adjustment for the gap between your host and the EzFocus adapter. There should always be a small gap. You don't want it to 'bottom out' and touch the face of the host.
