FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! 445nm, Blu-ray, or Red...

kit arrived today. thanks jayrob. now I just need my diode to get here for some 445nm fun.

Kit arrived Monday after being shipped only Thursday! Great shipping, and Jayrob has already been incredibly helpful answering my many questions. I will be taking pictures as I go along in my build, but it looks like it's going to be very easy and a great experience - I'd recommend Jayrobs kits to anyone, especially newbies who are looking for a first step into the DIY world - it's competitive pricing, low risk, and high reward!

Thanks Jayrob! Pics to follow.

AdamCaudill, I'm shipping your 18650 kit today. (Friday)

(Longer copper heatsink, Micro Boost 'Hot' option set at max, AixiZ 445 lens, EzFocus adapter)

The Micro BoostDrives max out over 1 Amp in the 2 jumper setting per documentation. Usually around 1070mA's. This one maxed out at 1120mA's...

Hope you like it!

It came today, thanks! It looks great, I really like the EzFocus - much better than the standard AixiZ focusing ring. I was really surprised at the weight of the heatsink, with that much mass it should be quite effective. Overall, a most impressive setup.

After working with the copper heatsink with pressfit option, I would have to recommend this to anyone thinking about this kit. It is awesome. I still have to get everything organized and mounted into the host, but the A140 diode beeing driven by a flexv5 at 900ma has no problems cutting through tape. The custom focus knob on the aixiz 445 lens is awesome too. No mw reading yet, waiting for lpm still.

thanks again jayrob

This host could also fit a full length AixiZ module for a rkcstr/red build using 2 X RCR123 batteries if the top of the pill is drilled out. (like with my Pocket Mini kit)

There would be about 1/8" of room between the end of the full length AixiZ module, and the round circuit board at the bottom of the pill.

And you could just make a plastic sleeve from a Pepsi bottle to use in the barrel to keep the batteries from rattling...

After reading this, I am really considering getting this option. As I posted in your other thread, I want to use this (HighTechDealZ - 445nm Aixiz Rkcstr Blue 440mA Laser Module). So if a full Aixiz module fits inside this host with room to spare, it is a likely candidate for me.

How much to drill the pill, $10? If it's $10 then that means $57 total with shipping?

Correct...

That's with the aluminum heatsink. Copper upgrade is an additional $12 bucks. A full length AixiZ module will fit, but you will need fine flexible wire. There is not much room between the back of the module and the board. So you can't have thick wire out of your module....

Also, I'm not too sure how well a 445 diode will do with a rkcstr using 2 X RCR123 batteries. I know it should be ok though. Just not sure how long your run time will be between charges...

P.S. I'm going camping 8/15 - 8/22, and I won't be able to get to your order for at least a couple of weeks. (back log)

Really sorry about this delay...

That's no problem. Gives me more time to think about what host I want to use. With that said, how many of your host kits could occupy a full fledged Aixiz module?

Also I can still send payment while you are gone right, and you will take care of it when you get back?

Thanks Jay!

Yes, you can PM me about payment anytime...

I will be on-line probably an hour per day.

For a full length AixiZ module, I really only have three kits that will fit it...

Two of which are 18650 hosts. Which would also fit 2 X RCR123. Just use some plastic from a 2 liter soda bottle for a battery sleeve. (rolled up)

SolarForce L2P: (18650)

3405 kit: (3 X 10440 - this would also work for a rkcstr/445 build)

And this black 18650 kit shown in this thread...

Ok, based on that I will either get the chrome pen host or this black 18650 one. I will probably PM you later tonight when I make my decision.

Oh and I take it the Stainless Steel 18650 host won't work with a full AixiZ?

Grr, DTR, I kinda wish I bought that bigger heatsink now seeing that pic.... I'm considering selling my 445 just so I can make another one now, maybe I can make a stainless one.... :p

It's a nice long heatsink for the Stainless Steel 18650, and it would be very close to fitting a full length module in that host if the pill were drilled out, and the driver was mounted completely inside the AixiZ module...

Just a minute and I'll get back to you with some measurements...

Update: Ok, with the stock contact board (with components removed), pressed into the bottom of the pill (top drilled out), a full length AixiZ module would still stick out the front of the heatsink by about 1/16" of an inch.

So in this case, a custom heatsink can be made that sticks out the front of the host just past the flush point. Maybe 1/16" past the flush point of the face.

It's either that, or depending on your build skill, you could just eliminate the contact board, and have a contact point (or board) on the back of your module for the battery positive contact...

That too could be done...

18650 kits shipped today: (Saturday)

pocketfluff (basic kit with AixiZ 445 lens)

matrix961 ('Hot' option set at 900mA's, longer copper heatsink, EzFocus adapter, AixiZ 445 lens, AixiZ module)

Hope you like them!

Finally got everything together. I always manage to take horrible pictures and being limited to an iPhone didn't help, but here is a couple shots.

Hey jayrob. I've bought on of these kits before, and I'm considering buying two more.

For the sake of a matched set, have you noticed anything changed in the styling of the host you use? This is from about 6 months ago.

Thanks.
