It's a 420mA open can (give a look at Igor reply #658 of this post....what can I say more? It's beautiful, and if you like pyrography, it's perfect for the job....

Yes, it's an open can set at 430mA in my v1 all-in-one heatsink module (same as the PHRs)... It worked so well, i raised the current slightly before sending it to Franco.. If i remember correctly, it is putting out around 285mW - 295mW after an AR coated lens.


The long can diode would seem to be a good one too.  I know someone who set his to 440mA months ago. I should ask if it's still alive... Basically it's the diode used in the Dilda. But with proper heatsinking and an efficient boost driver, it works much better than in a Dilda.

The open can is a well known very tough diode, but the long can would seem to be almost as good. Some people think it's the same long die as in the open can, but canned.. I have one naked somewhere.

It would be cheaper for you to do it with the diode from the 4x/6x sled. It might do a bit less at the same current, because of the window. And if it should ever pop, and i replace it with an open can for you, it would be the same as if you went for the open can from the start... But i think it can handle it..

Sure, I did it in about five minutes, and the host was just 1 or 2 °C more than my skin.....you can work as long as you want without getting it warm

I love how there's no duty cycle on these thing's ;D whats the point in having one if you have to turn it off every 20 seconds .

I have a challange for you Franco   you must try to create the same effect as before with the pyrography but with a duty cycle of 20 seconds and do it all in one cycle .

Ha ha, after the first pyrography test I have found funny doing something more, so this is my second "exercise"; I think I have spent about ten minutes for all, but you can split in working segments as you like.....
To make the same work in a shorter time, you must give to Igor the time: 1) Or to find some more powerful diodes. 2) Or to receive his last super lenses... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

No, I've got this piece of tree branch on a beach of the lake were I live. I choose it just because it was nice to see and cut (in the nice days I bring my grand son to this quiet beach to play, throwing small stones and little pieces of wood in the water)
I have obviously always with me my Officer Suisse fellow (that's my VictorInox stainless multitool foldable knife)....it's perfect for cutting branches...
