Is there any reason you couldnt have a press mount for a diode in which it is inserted from the front?

Of course you would want to solder your leads and thread them through first but everything else should be the same/similar I would imagine.

Unless im missing something...:can:

I see no reason why this can not be done, thoses little red insulators that come on the 445's would help here.

Oh yeah Ive seen those and they would be nice for this. I was thinking though a bit more accessible solution would be to just make sure any unused pins are clipped entirely and the rest heat shrinked or just add an extra heat shrink around all of the pins to avoid a short.

I would think it would be easily taken care of... but why would you need a front press-fit? If you can take off the head in order to work with the driver, why not just stick the diode in the back to begin with?

Im working on something unique. There will be no threads for the lens in front of the diode and if I were to press it from the back you would have to press it blindly since it is 1.5 inches deep in the heatsink.

After the awesome heatsink/driver design you came up with last time, I have 100% faith in this new endeavour... whatever it is.
