Picked up one of these the other day while getting some super bargains and it will fit a module in the head the same way the Defiant ones will. It also has a nice thick rubber piece that you can slide off for a sleeker look. Probably going to go check tomorrow and see what if anything is still left f4om the super bargains and pick up a couple more of these as right now my closest store says they have 6 more. The light stuff in the head is very easy to remove. Has 3 sections that you screw out one at a time. Very slick:
Husky 60 Lumen LED Unbreakable Aluminum Pen Light with Clip 99396 at The Home Depot - Mobile
Remember you can check online to see if your store has them before going. Most flashlights are in the tools section but you never know.

Nice little host Pete, looks like that bigger dia. head should give you a fair amount of heatsinking.
After looking closer, that light has some nice looking detail to it, good find!

Not really anymore heat sinking as it has a rubber boot on the head that you can slide off. What I meant was the stuff in the head piece is modular as in you screw out a holder piece and then light/driver piece and then the retainer for the reflector and plastic lens. The standard module slides in but will have to be cut back so the body can be screwed into it just like the Defiant one.

They have some bigger nice thick AL FL too.
Walmart has some ozark trail C-cells that looks good, and c-cells are 26mm as are 26650's so.....

THIS ONE looks cool too, a good walking light, pretty thick too, you would use 14500 in place of AA cells for a build, you could hit a baseball I bet, it feels thick at the store, I may het one for kicks.

It's all about looking everytime you happen to be at places that sell flashlights. If you cat it just at the right time everyone ***** old stock.
That bat light reminds me of my very old 7D cell Mag. The thing could kill you in an instant. Seems so weird that something that big can't put out light as strong as some really small lights now. Too bad the paint is in really crappy shape. I don't think of it as a light anymore. It's a weapon.

Pman, a little of the thread buddy but why doesn't your signature show a link to your "kiss" guide with all the suggested diode spec's etc.?

Maybe I just havnt been in the laser world that long or I'm missing something but how do you find a heatsink for any random flashlight host? Like when people turn most any flashlight into a laser, I have always wondered how you can get a perfect size heatsink. Again sorry if this question has been answered somewhere else. :D

Rick Trent (click on his name for a YouTube video) sells heatsinks and modules on eBay. Another video here. They're designed to fit into flashlight hosts - sells them with MX-900s. The heatsinks are a little pricey now at $85, used to be about half that several months ago.

Ahh okay, very helpful. I'll have to check that out. Thanks again

Hi Pman,
Thanks buddy for posting my Husky build that would shed some light on the subject for those that are interested. It's pretty much detailed in pics to follow , they are all mechanical inside which makes it that much easier to mod .

Rich:)

Hi Richie, many of the so called random flashlight builds will need a custom heatsink made specifically for it.
There are a number of members here who can make something for whatever particular host you may have in mind, some of them off the top of my head would be, Jayrob, Flaminpyro, Eudaimonium, and possibly Ehgemus if he returns. A few of us make our own heatsinks.
The better that you can make a heatsink fit the host, the more heat transfer capability to the host you'll have. This becomes more important as you build higher power units.
Some of the small pen size hosts are almost a direct fit for a standard 12mm module.

Edit: If you look through many of the build threads, you'll see what was made for these flashlight hosts and sometimes even how it was done. :yh:

To add to what every one has said, you should be able to find heat sinks for the 501b hosts pretty easy and very cheap on most sellers sights as thats one of the most popular and one of easiest host to build on, they come basicly in a standard size for a 12mm module and should be well stocked.

Yeah I've seen a lot of stuff for the 501b. I've actually gone so far as to think about taking apart one of my Scifi laser and changing out the diode to a another Wavelength. But yeah that seems to be the only host I see stuff for is the C6 and 501b. Thanks for the advice.

I've seen a lot of people on here say that the 501b host isn't too good once you get higher powered lasers in it, right?
