Toked - I recommend you buy and tinker with the Nova to get an idea of how delicate it all is if you're gonna try to resurrect it.
$80 is about what I'd expect to pay for such a diode - if it's more you're being ripped off.
You will also need a driver capable of delivering the current needed by the diode, which is not something the good ole 317 can deal with without some heatsinking, and that also requires that the tab be electrically but NOT thermally isolated from the heatsink.
And lastly you'll need a lot of patience to get it going again.
