Some things to note on ALL high power 445nm diode lasers(that are currently available at a cost effective price at time of this post. I'm not claiming to know the future). The output will ALWAYS be rectangular REGARDLESS of what chinese websites and sellers claim. All these lasers use the exact same multimode diode. There are only two ways to get circular, or at least a symmetric square, out of these. Both have tradeoffs.

The two methods are:
Pass the beam through an aperture and simply 'cut off' all but the center section of the 'line' output. This can give you a circle, but at the expense of >50% of your power.. Meaning there's no way it will anywhere near 1W of actual usable output unless they're pushing the diodes to 2W+

The other method is to use corrective optics to make the fast axis divergence match that of the slow axis. This method will NOT be used on 'cheap' blues like the ones discussed in this thread simply due to the cost and complexity of implementing it properly, plus it leads to a needing a larger host.

So my thoughts as to the final rayfoss laser mentioned. It either has the typical rectangular output (which, to a camera at close range, will indeed look circular due to the camera sensor washout due the intensity) Or it has an aperture (unlikely due to it being focusable) and the power is likely nowhere near spec.

In any case, I'm sure that AMN not going to give as much importance to what you mentioned. I think that no matter which be circular or rectangular, keep in mind that for a beginner like he or I, this isn't matter. With practice one begin to give importance to minor things, but now isn't matter.

And why is better purchase lasers here? It is better? I don't understand why. The price?

I'm still curious as to whether all blue lasers have rectangular dots or not.

Yes the arctic has a rectangular 'dot' as well. It uses the exact same 445 diode.. from the same source, as everybody else.. i.e. Scavenged out of a certain manufacturer's DLP projectors.

B.S.T is Buy\Sell\Trade, the section of the forum. Sorry for not making that clear.

Some people here buy lasers, use them fora while and resell them when they get fed up, but the best sales are from the people that make the lasers themselves. There's also group buys (where someone buys a large number of a product and gets bulk discounts them distributes them to the forum at the discounted price) but that's usually not for complete lasers.

As much as I can understand your excitement, but please keep in mind, you are talking
about and recommending a CLASS IV LASER device to a total laser newb (as is
very clear from the posts).

Until recently, only professionals in labs and maybe some projector hobbyists with
severl thousands of dollars had access to class IV lasers. And none of them were
handheld pointers you flick about from your wrist.

I'm not saying AMN or Antoniio are stupid, but they are clearly lacking
in experience when it comes to lasers.

I see the class IV monster is already ordered, so I only can hope the soon to be owner will
use the time until it arrives to read up on safety.
These are really really dangerous devices, especially when they are your 1st laser,
and you haven't built it yourself.

I always recommend "low" powered lasers as a first experience, and the responsible
thing for AMN to do would be to get a 5mW greenie and/or BluRay and play with
those for a week or two before touching the 1W monster, although I know this is
not going to happen.

The laser hasn't been ordered yet, so, yeah, AMN, get something much lower-powered if this is your first laser. Stick to the blowtorch for burning.

I understand your concern and feel it was very sensible of you to input that from what you have read you can make out that I'm not very experienced with lasers.
But I have owned about 20 + lasers before this, and I did start with 5mw, then moved on up, I have handled many burning lasers, and am well aware of laser dangers.
So be sure that this 1W laser that I have ordered will be used with care and I will be using goggles with it.
