First Build...

Update: Finished assembly!!! WOOT! Got the driver finished, its putting out 126mA to the diode, which is mounted in an aixiz module. Got it all together, insulated and finished up inside a hotlights host! The insides are ugly as all get out, but it feels awesome having finished my first laser! :D Beam is easily visible at night unlike my 5mw 405nm, though the dot is not much brighter to my eyes than my 5mw 405nm (however my dad sees a major difference.. hmm anatomical research time perhaps?) Will post pictures of the finished (common) host exterior, interior (ugly), and beam shots at night and with fog. :) very excited to try it with fog hehee

Also, metered it on a calibrated laboratory solar radiation thermopile sensor and got 127mW output. this was not meant for lasers, but i think it gives a rough idea. any idea if this is a reasonable number?

ok.. so, a friend already bought it from me before i took any real pictures XD so.... i guess this thread is done? lol, onward to my next build!

well at 126mA going to the diode and after a lens, you shouldnt be doinh 127mW...thats very very very efficient... too efficient if you ask me. You should be doing about 95-100mW tops. I ran phr's and 6x Blu-ray diodes at 120mA - 180mA and got mW ratings 20-30 lower than the mA rating. my 180mA 6x build gave out 155mW, my phr build at 150mA puts out 110mW.

that being said, all diodes vary by as much as 5%. so you could have close to 105 at 126mA if you diode happens to be REALLY efficient...
other than that CONGRATS on your first build!!!!

P.S. keep me posted on the status of your mill man. Im anxiously awaiting that solarforce dropin.

Yes they do the same thing, so that is OK

dont pot's and resistors do the same thing? o.o i got the pots so that i wouldnt have to order specific new resistor values every time i want a different power driver.. i dont have a stock of resistors in my possession, so i figured the pots i could just set to the 10ohm for this, or a 5 ohm for another thing etc, and leave it as though it were a resistor. is that ok or not?
