first 650nm laser

well i got my circuit built. just finished it up. had a problem where it wasn't working correctly and i figured it out pretty quickly, i put the capacitor in backwards. i was able to power a low X dvd burner diode as well as a led, and the potentiometer works great. my problem i'm having
now is my cheap ass harbor freight tools multimeter doesn't have the right setting to figure out how much mA i'm pushing, or i'm not seeing it. but its late so hopefully tomorrow i can post a picture.

Man your lucky that capacitor didn't explode
You will need a test load to get the mA, set your multimeter to the 2000mv option & it will tell you ;)

ok, here is the DDL. i've went ahead already and any bare connections got coated in liquid electric tape. i did leave a bit of the Capacitor exposed so i can short it when needed. and as you can see i put a quick disconnect on the end of the laser diode as well as the DDL which has been working good for me as i've been cleaning it up and shorting wire an such.

Now i know this isn't the most glamorous host but i'm working on finding a project box that is similar is size because it works so perfectly.

Well this really wasn't my intention, but radio shack is slacking with there limited supply of project boxes either is way to big or to small. As well as only having 1 ohm resistors in a 600ct verity pack or in a 5 watt version. By the way would a 1 ohm 5 watt resistor work in a test load? But anyways I like this laser a bunch and already have a few people how want to buy it. I already want to build a more powerful blue or green laser and would probably just run it with that driver when it gets here.

Thanks, i wouldn't have been able to do it without you and Fretwrecker94, and all the helpful info on the forum.

Well that's what the forums here for :D

ALSO, my first build was a 50mw green altoids tin also :D

:D nice. well i have a birthday coming up and am looking at building a blue or a green one, and will more then likely power it with your driver would you recommend any diode's to look into?

Get a PHR 803T diode :) set the driver to ~120mA ish & you will have a nice powerful violet laser :D

My linear isn't the best for m140 445's although you can use it you won't be able to run it to the max.

Really glad to see you built that so well! Dude, serious props to you. I always see half baked attempts by new guys and it makes my skin crawl. I like your style, kid (you're probably older than me and not a kid so that's kinda strange to say)

ANYWAY! Good job :) Enjoy your laser! You more than certainly deserve a laser after all your willingness to learn and patience :)

Thanks you so much for your help. I used that diagram you drew for me as a blueprint printed it right out and built it. Only thing I had to modify was the potentiometer a bit but other then that it went flawless. Used heat shrink tubing where I could and liquid electrical tape on the rest. And even a quick connect between the laser and the circuit. I like my host for now but would prefer something similar but in plastic. Alot of people just love this little laser and I've already got some cash offers for it to maybe found my next laser.

And by the way I'm only 24.

AnthoT got that linear driver today and all i can say it wow! its so small and well constructed:gj:. thanks, i might have to pick up one of the boost drivers as well, i'm considering doing a PHR-803 in a jayrob SolarForce L2P Host. but with this linear driver, it almost looks like i can fit it right inside of the aixiz module which would allow me to fit this laser in anything that the batteries and module will fit in.

Glad it got to you safe and sound :D

Yup it's tiny, it can easily fit in a Aixiz module ;)
Let me know if you need any help with it ever ;) can't wait to see your other build as this one was very very nice :D

:thanks:

Your boost driver when available would be good for a 445 such as the m-140 correct?
