FireDragon-V 80mW GLP Discussion. Review and Purchase. Unboxing Video.

Here is my FireDragon, with my large 9mm x 2mm IR filter from an old video recorder installed.

Considering these only cost 36 dollars for 80mW+, it is a very good deal.

lol!

Your Firedragon is not the same with Pic firedragon.:can:

But I' like it! I hope to get the same:tinfoil:

Actually it's almost exactly the same. Only difference is the ROHS sticker isn't there, and the front cap is black instead of silver color.

I'm also glad the warning sticker lets me know it is <500mW, lmfao.

Also, for 35 dollars, the build quality is phenomenal.

I got my firedragon and I also purchased the 80mW skylasers model

Both meter in at over 100mW

SKY - 115mW peak - 3mW IR!
firedragon - 127mW peak - 9mW IR

Both have great build quality

Nice! Did you try it with (one) 10440?

No I just used the cheapo batteries that came with the lasers. I will throw a 10440 on the charger.

Even regular energizers or other high quality alkaline would probably bump the output a bit

My charger stops at 3.85V but even with this im hitting

firedragon - 180mW
SKY - 159mW

With 4.2V? ~200mW?:D

I wouldnt get TOO excited. The stability isnt very good. I got 180mW peak BUT then it dropped to 130mW then when I went back to AAAs it stopped at 80mW and after letting it cool down again back up to 120mW. So stability sucks but peak is quite good.

Visually the power seems stable but on a meter it clearly is not.

It also seems to get warm quickly with the 10440 cell so I would be cautious using it this way on a regular basis. Also with the 10440 you need a good spacer that has isolated sides because otherwise you WILL have a short and this will get hot very quickly.

Yea, but is worth for 30$:D

After using it more, this is absolutely what I've noticed. Stability *seems* to be better on nimh cells with sacrificing some output.

a full 4.2V instead of 3.85V didnt make much of a difference. The firedragon peaked at 184mW but then quicly dropped off to 120mW. The SKYlaser was actually slightly lower with the full 4.2V but that probably due to the unstable nature of these.
