i updated the post with a pic. the colors look totally different under a good light source... looks like black, orange, orange, silver, brown.

It will not work with that combination.. you can not start with a black, silver or gold and can't end with black, orange, yellow or white. if you upload a pic we can try figure it out.. otherwise try this link 5 Band Resistor Color Codes

i uploaded a pic and modified the first post. the last band looks purple in the pic but looks brown in good light..

ok i used a differnt calculator and i got for Black, Orange, Orange, Silver, Brown

0.33Ω 1% (between 0.3267 - 0.3333 Ω) Which sounds about right..

Thats def. correct colours, cause if it was grey it would be invalid!

EDIT: Just validated it! used this website http://www.fuzion.co.uk/support/rescalc/r5.htm got the same value! so it is def. right!

with my radio shack cheapy i got .5 on the 200ohm setting and .001 on the 2k ohm setting.

Which means it's a .33 ohm resistor, since .5 ohm is still within it's tolerance range :)

Yeah its def. right ndrew.. im not to crash hot with ohms on a DMM but i know that what i said in my post above is the correct reading for that resistor! btw as Things said, 0.5 ohms is still within tolerance range.. which means that 0.33 is correct!

Hope that helped -Adrian

Just touch the leads of your multimeter together first, that will usually show some low resistance value, in your case probably 0.2 ohms. The resistor adds 0.3 to that reading 0.5 - fairly common effect since the meter measures the resistance of the leads too.
