The fluorescent light is not at 405nm, it is not very bright, and it is not coherent. Often the fluorescent reaction is overpowered by the "blaze" of the 405nm laser light. By filtering the bright 405nm light from the laser, you can more easily see the light being produced by the fluorescent reaction.
When viewing fluorescence with my 405nm lasers, I often use an unfocused beam shone through a diffraction grating to diffuse the laser light.
