I'd like 488 too, but not at that price. However, I'd go for another 495 nm diode.

I will buy a 495nm for 55+shipping.

What's the forward voltage and normal current ?

What driver is everyone using ?

I have a fair few SXD's but not much in the way of small drivers.

A flexdrive will work for a low powered build. Vf is in the vicinity of 6V, and increases with higher current. Anything higher powered and you'll need a boost drive or a linear driver and some Li-ion batteries.

I'm know DTR will get some in and pair with drivers in a module, I might as well just get one from him as I would be buying a driver from him anyway.

I do wonder how much different the 488nm will look from the 495nm, the wavelength to color guide shows it as a slight difference, but that may not be an accurate representation.

Expect there too be quite a difference between them due to where they are in the spectrum 5-7nm is a large gap for cyan and yellow bands.
As for DTR's modules, I might do the same.

Yea, I'm also out of 5.6 copper modules, I have some old chrome ones and copper 9mm, so I might as well just get mine from DTR, unless of course the diodes have already been ordered, in which case I will gladly pay for anything already ordered on my behalf.

Looks like DTR is in fact getting some 495nm diodes. At least that's what he said on his site.

Coming from someone with 480, 485, 488, 495 and 502, this is how my eyes see them:

480 is blue no matter how you look at it. Sky blue.
485 is getting close to green, though still unmistakably blue.
488 is just barely blue, unless you're looking at 450 before it... Then it's kinda greenish, but just barely blue. If you're looking at greens before it, it's pretty green but still very much so blue. 490 was even more on the fence when I had it...
495 is green that's having an identity crisis and wants to be blue, but you know it's still green.
502 is green any which way

495 v 488

And 520 vs 502 vs 495 vs 488 vs 485

An fyi, screens are not good at saturation in the cyan area. The 495 is much greener in person.

I also put a lot of time into my signature for color comparisons, they're fairly close on 5 of my monitors

Nice comparisons. It should be noted that every individual is different so colour perception in those areas are purely a personal one. For example, for someone else a 488 could be cyan, but not to another. Either way I am hoping to get my very own perfect cyan laser one day. Just don't know what wavelength it will have to be for myself.

 I see that now you have looked at this diode you are hooked. Need another 495nm fix. How many will sate your addiction? ;)

Sharp has the 495s listed in their product lineup. They are here to stay, unlike the 480s :(

Well that's good news for the 495's at least. But shame about the 480's however.
