Has anyone gotten one of these 5 mW pointers that you can easily mod? Neo Lasers watch the video ---and if you buy something from him tell him 'Hakzaw sent me' He also has (so far as he is just starting up) a green and another violet. He (Justin) has responded quickly to my questions. I plan to get one soon and will do a review but thought some FB might be found from LPF members. If you look close at the pointer and the box it come in and compare to any other 5MW pointer out there -none that I can find match - not saying that you can or cannot do the same thing with other 5 mW violet pointers .... thanks hak

Unless you are extremely unhandy it would be more beneficial to build your own bluray laser. For the $70 or 100 you could build a custom PHR over 125mW. I am not knocking anyones products but this is a DIY forum and most of the members prefer the DIY builds. This thread may be better suited for the "companies" sub-category.

Edit: Oh noes, I just went through the site and I am quite unhappy with my findings :yabbem:. The "I broke my laser because I pot modded it" 20% discount.

I am a profesional Builder. i only charge $10 per build ^_^ interested? it will garuntee your laser is PERFECT

i will build you a 125mW blu-ray BURNER with adjustable focus, and in a GORGEOUS tiny host for $100. im only making $10 off of that, and i still have to pay shipping..

Best deal you'l ever get.

pot moding a 5mw blu-ray diode is a BAD idea... its 5mW for a reason... because its a bottom of the barrel diode that was made to put out ONLY 5mW or less. so pushing it even to 15mW will probably kill it.

BTW i can build ANY laser you want

how about a 500mW 8x blu-ray burner in a pocket mini with Jayrobs 405-G1 lens for $300
pre-built and everything, also has a waranty ^_^ if it breaks due to my fault. you get a whole nre unit, and can keep the old one.

just thought i'd offer you my services for cheap.

i can make you the most powerful blu-ray handheld laser money can buy!/

I think MISTERWILLING holds that title;

420ma ~ 532mw with the 8X I tested at slightly lower current.

Sorry Mike for picking the wrong forum- Im new----kinda knew some one would have this response. I am all about DIY from salvaged parts. I have 5 BRs - two diy builds- two w/smd drivers(Korea)and a sunclanlaser handbuilt pointer 5mW that will be modded up soon. I saw in Neolasers ebay completed sales FB that he took some offers below 60$ and perhaps being a bit lazy/unhandy?? contemplated getting one -strictly for scientific purposes(yea right) but have vowed to sell some of my collection BEFORE buying anything else.----:-]--to TYLER you dont have to sell me on your services- I am working on a new build idea and will want your help soon. If anyone get one of these I am still curiuos so plz PM me. Thanks to all---Hak

I just went to the Neolaser website and looked at this:'I Broke My Laser

If you break your laser while trying to mod it, or some other way. You can return it and get a 20% off coupon (good for 1 time use). This offer is good for 2 weeks after you get your laser.

If you would like to return an item (or just have a question), Contact Us.

Ok perhaps you may have taken this the wrong way. I think if you watch the video when you get to the 'just twist and pull apart' part and I'm thinking ... I bet it doesn't ALWAYS come apart that easily, especialy with my bad luck. I imagine great care must be taken to avoid harming the driver and the push button both. Plus without more heatsinking one might overheat a pot modded one by not using a duty/rest cycle plus they dont do well after dropping or leaving out in rain etc.---any way you are taking that risk on your own and its kinda rare to find a 20% discount for most likely doing something (within two weeks) wrong yourself. ?follow me?-- dont know this guy only asked a few questions via ebay and invited him to look at LPF - he already had been there he but declined to join for fear of spending too much time looking at all the stuff on LPF( My problem as well) --- I think the site is new and had to set it up as he had some listings pulled by ebay for offering shipping to Au and UK. He still has it listed on ebay with 'make offer' with link to modding video. Mostly I am asking for first hand knowledge on this pointer.. thanks

Honestly, I am uneasy about pulling apart my cheap 5mW Chinese pointer. Selling a product and suggesting to "hack" it, then offering a partial credit if you screw it up....It doesn't exactly sound like a winning sales pitch to me.
Just my $0.02

ahahha those 405nm lasers are from BOBLASER!! i got one like that.. look at the serial number of the driver!! hehahehehehe boblaser 5mw 405nm

Yes these NEO lasers are indeed 5mW BOBLASERS. It is no secret that they can be easily modified to higher power. Some more than others. Dave posted a thread on this right after Day dinished his BOBlasers GB. None however will burn anything without the help of a lense. They will sting the skin though and some may even melt through a black plastic trash bag. The funny thing about the "Broken laser" being returned is that most of these laser that have been attempted to be modified are not actually "broken" They can easily be repaired by checking the ground connection, adjusting the pot SLOWLY (it is very very sensitive) or re-soldering the tiny little copper wire to the circuit board that sometimes detatches. I used to sell these too and I was able to repair every single laser that had been returned "broken" in an effort to modify. These laser cost less than $30 direct from BOBLasers. The fact that the seller is encouraging his customers to modify the lasers and then offering his 20% off coupon is suspicious. I am not knocking the laser itself. I still have 3 that I have kept as peronal lasers. 1 does 250mW, 1 does 200mW and another 100mW. The 2 higher powered ones were picked out of 100 of these so don't expect them all to modify that high. Most will not modify past 100mW.

yobresal.. try what i did... i replaced the boblasers diode with a PHR one... you will see even greater results

Nothing suspicious, check the math. These are just rounded numbers.

First laser you buy $100. His price was $50. He makes $50 profit.
You return the laser and get 20% off next one. $100 - 20% = $80 He makes $30 profit.
Now he fixes the returned laser and sells it for $100. He makes $100 profit because it was already paid for the first time. He just bought it back from you for $20

So now he makes $180 on two lasers instead of $100. Maybe more depending on profit margins.

You said it yourself they are an easy fix, and are under 2 weeks old so they are in good shape. Nice scam.

Thanks matrixcs-yobresal and T/J--I knew There was info out there on this one. Are they still available for 30$ from Boblasers? I checked NeoLasers completed sales and found he went as low as $50, on his Ebay -Make Offer- also on Ebay Will at lasers4u sells this one start bid at 40$ and buy-it-now for $65.- I did not want to be a guinnea pig anyway.---Hak

Now I can get them for $19 each this is not including shipping though plus I would have to order many.
Matrix- I have done that PHR mod with 2 of these. The results are great. I have one here with a PHR in it and it is putting out alot of mW's for a PHR. I have one with a new module all together and one with just a diode swap. If you switch out the module all together you can make it focusable which is totally awesome.

I'm with you John... Dave is the Pioneer of the 8X Reasearch and testing..
and was the first to break the 405nm 500mW barrier...
Anything after that is good but not first...;)
