export PMs as text file? Yes! Now with a GUI!!

Re: export PMs as text file?

By the way, this will screw up if any of your messages contain the word "displaycontainer"... it'll cut the message off half way.

You can get it to do your outbox or storage too, just change the lines that say "YaBB.pl?action=im" to "YaBB.pl?action=imoutbox" or "YaBB.pl?action=imstorage"

If anyone wants to use this but doesn't have access to a unix-based computer, you can either download a ubuntu cd, burn it and boot off it or you can sign up for a free shell account
I believe on Mac OSX you should just be able to save the file someplace, right click hit info or properties or whatever, click the box that says "executable" or "allow this file to be run as a program" or something, put cookies.txt in the same folder as it, and double click it.

If anyone would like step-by-step instructions, just ask. it's pretty easy.

Bump for the PM downloader I posted in the OP  :D
Thanks for making that DrLava. I just backed up my 700 PMs :)

I can open the file in notepad, which is nice, but I'm not sure how to use the file in MS Outlook?

Any idea which type of file it is? I assume I'm supposed to do "Import file from program / file"

thanks again,

I don't use outlook but maybe one of these methods will work:
Method 1

1. On the File menu, click Import and Export.
2. On the Choose an action to perform box, click Internet Mail and Addresses, and then click Next.
3. In the Select the Internet Mail program to import from box, click Netscape Messenger 4.0x, click Import Mail, and then click Next. The following message appears:
Found no registry entry for Netscape Messenger 4.0x. Please select the mail folder for this application
4. Locate the Netscape folder. The following is the default path
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\<profilename>
where <profilename> is the profile that you created when you configured Netscape.

5. Click the folder that corresponds to the profile name, and then click OK.

Messages are imported to the Outlook message store.
Method 2

1. In Outlook Express, on the File menu, click Import, and then click Messages.
2. In the Outlook Express Import Select Program box, click Netscape Communicator, and then click Next.
3. In Location of Messages, click Browse, to navigate to the Mail folder where Messenger stores messages. The following is the typical path
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\<User name>\Mail
where <User name> is the name of the Netscape profile to be imported.

4. Click the Mail folder, click OK, and then click Next.
5. In Select Folders, click to select All Folders, or click Selected Folders, and then click the individual folders to import. You can use the CTRL key to select multiple folders. Click Next.
6. After the message conversion is completed, click Finish, and then quit Outlook Express.

What do you put in the yaBB folder section? It didnt download my PM's last time, and I think thats why.
