Exciting news about Blu-ray lasers and fossils

500mw scanned 405... nice! Ide like to see the setup.. raster style scanning?

New issue arrived arrd Autum's 'lighter SIDE' column is another good one.

..ever heard of acrylamide?? me neither.

It forms most when making french fries.. And has been linked to cancer.
If cooked another way, like boiling its not a factor.
So at U.of Brussels the B-PHOT Team, using NIR lasers that scan and detect the toxic compounds.

This way, rather than sample testing and discarding an entire batch, the can scan each peeled potato.
In the pic I seen what looks like 465 as one beam and two others -one white the other orangish.

They plan to make a handheld one for kitchen use.

They think this tech may be very useful for many other foods as well.

I will try to get PDF for this article and will be posting bits about past issues of Autumn's Column.

a better pic

was unable to post this pic from the PDF.
AND besides enlarging you need to rotate if you want the same view as in the mag.
this pic taken w/ NIKON COOL-PIX 2200.

update

I just applied for the job of traveling the world.... 405 scanning and taking pics of the millions of fossils in thousands of museums. $450 a month...
it was the most I could offer.. I may be able to pay them a little more.. need to sell lasers ASAP.. (but not the 405s lol)

.. did you know that there once was a flying/gliding 'bird' with fourwings???
Yes i knew that....

Ps - you really shouldn't double post let alone triple post here as it is really frowned upon, Ask me how i know..... lol

^^^ well --so nice to see you again sir<<
The writer of that column was kind enough to provide a File.
I thought I had her talked into joining LPF..
She would be an asset..
and we don't get many womanfolk around des parts..

aside note ... anyone can subscribe to this fine trade mag and get it on-line Digital FREE ..

Every issue I get comes with a form to fill out- and fold= drop in mail no postage even.
On that form you can opt for digital subscription which I would hope most here would please opt for --it would save P.S. folks some $$ as well as a few trees.

Any LPF member (even Accutronitis)can get an 'instant' sample here..
www.photonics.com/ DigitalSample and shezammm !! you got mail!!!

also--- have any of you tried using your 405s on your fossils??;);)post pics

iirc daguin has fossils ( not counting himself) :D :beer::rolleyes:

Welcome back, jmgallego, been a long time since I've seen that cool avatar!

Len, you need to keep working on getting Autum to join us here. :yh:

THE PARTY is in San Diego at Jose's place..
we can pick right back up where we left off.

Is your LaserKing PJ still working?

Did you get the issue of PS w/ the very nice foldout chart of the lasers??
a HUGE chart of all laser wavelengths and much more. I mounted mine before I could damage it.. PSs ells paper copy sans staple holes for $20 and laminated for iirc $30.

PM coming

@ BTG I will email her again.. signing up is easy.

That is SO true!!!

A members absence is not always noticed in a timely manner.
Please join us in reaching out.. just find a friend from your list and see how long they have been inactive.. let them know we value their opinions. PM, bump their rep.. just be sure they know we care.
We are losing far too many.
Are you wondering how Pete is doing?? if the Pman is your friend--you should know. Or try to reach out..

Len

I have reached out to him several times. I guess we'll hear from him when he is ready.
