Errrm, my first question!

Erm... that is NOT a 2W laser.

Here is what I would recommend... first off, decide WHAT you want the laser for? Is it for viewing a nice beam? Is it for using diffraction glass to do cool beam splits and patterns? Is it to point for a presentation or astronomy? Is it to ignite things? etc. Once you decide the purpose for the laser, then do a little research here using the 'Search' tool and see what posts have been made along those lines. If you want pretty much anything over a cheapie 5mW pen, I would recommend doing business with one of the members here that manufacture quality products you can trust. With regard to the link you posted, even if it did work when you received it, it would not be of the same quality you will find by searching around LPF and leveraging the reviews and recommendations that have already been made here in the forum archives.

Also, read the stickies about laser safety and the need/use of safety protective eyewear. You only get one set of eyes and they are worth protecting.

Have fun and be safe!

Cheers!

Even though it is not a 2W laser(ofc) isnt it too cheap? At least to be able to focus and light up a match. I might buy it :) its too cheap

Looks like a good deal to me. At that price, I would at least buy a couple of them :D

But seriously, for about $5 and it comes with a battery, it's probably not a bad deal for a toy.

I wouldn't trust the fact that it will definitely burn things either. There's no way it's 2W, probably 100mW tops (and probably 70mW IR and 30mW green at that). Still, pretty cheap buy

The seller has spurious business information, his listed location is a hairdressers in Oxford Street, the pictures are from a Chinese site,

I have no idea what a Pionter is and I'd second guess it's going to get drop shipped (bye bye laser when it hits UK customs)

2Watts?? ermm not in this lifetime,

Worth 3 quid just for the case but I wouldn't bet on it arriving in working condition even if Ebay leave it going (when it's way over their posted limits for UK sold "pionters")

cheers

Dave

ps: I'ma buy one and will rip it apart and post back what it's like (if it ever arrives)

Ehm, canceled my order, it says pionters and spooky is right he is listed to a hairdressers, and pictures are different. You might come up with a plastic tube :) lol

Was only 3 quid so I bought it for a giggle :) I'll rip it apart when it arrives and post pics :)

I think if it turns up I'll stick it in the cabinet of one of the laser cutters and power up remotely :) thankfully I have fire suppression built in :)

best wishes

Dave

There is no Laws regarding lasers in the UK so it'l be safe getting it in, if it is drop shipped maybe they did miss the decimal point on the price
:)

No laws as such but Trading Standards don't like high power Pointers, customs hate me already for importing laser tubes in the 240 watt range, I always end up getting a call asking me "what I want that thing for" last time "I'm building a death star" wasn't the answer they were looking for and held it up for 3 weeks :)

Miserable gits have no sense of humor :)

best wishes

Dave

Commercial Laser cutter, (well one of them) the 240 is waiting to be fitted into an HPC 1290 Pro,when I swap it out I'll take some pics of it running :)

Even the 240 watt glass tubes are insignificant compared to the 7.5Kw source in my previous metal cutting machine.

I might have powerful lasers but as they are all in the IR spectrum I don't get any nice beam shots to post :) (one of the downsides of lasers in the IR spec as well as safety issues)

Even those are toys compared to the Hydrogen Flouride , Duterium Flouride lasers in the multi megawatt range used in weapons research.

I'll go fire up the 200 watt and take a pic of it lasing.

best wishes

Dave
