Ebay "Thor" Laser

Yes, I did try unscrewing it. No luck :(

It might be sealed with epoxy, but typically they only use some kind of sticky thread lock. With enough torque you'd probably get it loose. I've gotten hosts unstuck by using a heat gun / hair dryer, but it killed the diode
Edit: You got a strap wrench? I edited my last post. They come in so handy when working with these

AgentMcBaine's method sounds solid. I would recommend heating up the host with a torch and cooling the heatsink block with a can of air duster flipped upside down. It will make your job alot easier. If you really believe it is screwed in then heat up the threads and the thread lock should melt.

What were the designers thinking running a wire through the tube? You can easily use the housing instead of a thin wire...

I do not recommend heating the host unless you have an extra diode sitting around. Heating should be a last ditch effort

Hi, White Guy Crazy
Try to get your iron down there if its a thin pencil type all you need is is a second to solder it.
Keep the host stationary so you can use both hands. Or if you can't fit the iron get a very long piece of thin diameter metal heat it up with a torch tin it and the wire with flux. It takes a second to make that solder it can be done. thats an easy fix pal and you will have your laser back wit a refund NICE!!! Never give up ....

Was thinking about this method, but I'm not sure where the connection needs to be made and I can't see it well...

I ran across the Thor lasers on Ebay yesterday before searching through the forum. I ordered one while I'm waiting on my Sci-Fi laser to get here:rolleyes:. Is there a way to put a better quality lens in it without a lot of trouble? I'm kinda new to building and mods so bear with me.

I don't think you can take off the front face, if you look at the 5th image. I don't remember if I tried unscrewing the front shroud myself when I had it. The easiest way is really just to make sure it's an acrylic/bad lens and unscrew it with a nail. The lens will come right out the front. You'd need a really skinny screwdriver with a 10-12mm bit on it if you want it out even easier, but just make sure not to scratch anything; take all the time in the world. If you're using a nail to unscrew it, make sure to only do half-turns, meaning keep the force you put through the nail away from the center of the lens, because it will slip. The new lens will probably be loose, so it's a good idea to put some thread lock, thick grease, or teflon tape on the threads.
Also I can't stress enough that you should take the batteries out every time you know you'll have to look down into the laser, including when you'll have to focus it with the new lens in.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I didn't knw if there was a way I could totally remove the old lens and put a new upgraded one on somehow if mine does like yours, Do you know what size that lens is by any chance?

The thread size is just the standard M9x0.5. 6-10mm long will do. Don't replace it with any cheap 1 element lens from Techhood (the kind with the brass nut that cost $8), because you won't be able to get it close enough to the laser diode to focus it. Just any standard glass lens. See DTR's Laser Shop

I bought from this exact seller and It came with a glass lens but my friends one didn't :P

Hi guys,

I'm about to buy this THOR from this guy:

Thor M II 2 Laser Pointer 445nm 450nm Blue Laser Beam Burn Match Paper Military | eBay

He also claims GLASS lens and METAL fixtures.

We exhanged e-mails where he confirmed these claims.

What do you guys think? Any experience with this seller in particular?

Maybe the glass lens are a new update over the resin lens sold at the time this thread was listed?

seems legit. Always remember that eBay buyers hold all the power against sellers almost every time, so you can get your money back no problem if it dies or anything. Sometimes Chinese sellers don't even want you to return it, except if their base is in your country

"So with that statement on record, I bought. It took from 29 April to 15 May to arrive, by which time the school semester had ended and I had totally forgotten about my order because I was too busy eating salads to try to lose the body weight comprised entirely of McChickens."

:crackup::crackup::crackup::crackup::bowdown:

best thing I have read all day.
