So I decided to buy a cheap 5 mw laser on ebay. AND I WNAT A SUPER OVERSPEC that would be from 50mw to 150mW XD so if anyone knows a good seller go ahead and post it. But i want a cheap one from 5$ to 12$ :D

i dont want >150mW i just want <150mW or less, many people got 100mW ones from ebay...

I second that! i would spend my money on a super-overspec that has been tested and lpm'd by a lpf member, every single time!!

A mate from work bought a laser gunsight....it was marked at 0.95mW, it was making 68mW lol link to thread here.

They bin the modules in these cheap lasers. So you can get anywhere form 10mW-50mW from a cheap 5mW laser. But when they get above that they get binned for higher power lasers. So basically there is a good chance you'll get <50mW buying a 5mW laser, but there is only a slim chance you'll get a >50mW for the price of the 5mW laser.

Agreed with Tech_Junkie, they get put in a "sell for more" category once they go over a certain power. My "5mW" I got came in around 70mW recently and another one I purchased came in at 25mW... It's luck of the draw. You pretty much get more than what you pay for no matter what, so you shouldn't be disappointed if its not insanely overspec.

A couple of weeks ago I ordered this one from eBay: New Powerful Violet Purple Blue Ray Laser Light Pointer Pen Beam 5mW 405nm | eBay

Today I received it and on the sticker it said "< 50mW" :D

Although the fixed focus is baaaad (On 10 cm distance the dot is approx. 4-5 mm in size, and expanding on longer ranges), with a magnifying glass in front of it I can pop balloons and burn/melt black plastic!

I tried lighting a match, but it's a little too weak for that. I starts smoking and stuff, but it won't ignite.

Sometimes you can wiggle the cap off then adjust the lens to get better focus. At your own risk.

Before you take it apart try putting it on something fluorescent further away (as sticky note colored with some hi-liter works great) and see how that looks. Because it is so close to UV it is hard for your eyes to focus on it and the dot will look big and fuzzy the further away it is.

I just tried with my hands and a cloth for better grip, but it's fairly firm. Should I try it with pliers? (I don't want to damage it)

Yeah I tried that, fluorescent things light up very bright.

Indeed, I also noticed it's somehow hard to focus with your eye, especially with a magnifying glass in front off it (so the dot is small). Weird :P

*cough cough* beamshots plz? :pop:
Nah, the beam isn't visible. That's because the human eye doesn't see 405nm as bright as (for example) 532nm.
Even in complete darkness, I still can't see a bit of the beam.
try with a rag and a clamp and wiggle the laser back and forth
Thank you, I'll try tomorrow :)

PS. Good thing I wear contact lenses with UV filters :P
