I ordered a 50mW SLD3232VF and what did I receive? -a tiny 5mW diode!
Then I ordered a 200mW SLD2327VF and got the 50mW one (!!!!!!!), which is the least reliable diode ever!! (my 2 dead violet 303s died)
The ebay sellers are simply lying bustards...

I have too many doubts these days about new members to believe posts like this as being more than someone amusing themselves seeing us respond to his post, but it could happen, I have no doubts about that, if Chinese sellers.

Chinese sellers + ebay = trick or treat, you don't know until you get it.

Which eBay seller?

If you are going to complain about a seller then it is only
logical that you divulge the seller's name in question........:wtf:

I used to buy from laserlands and I got good modules

I've bought from laserlands quite a few times in the
past years and always got what I paid for.

I bought from Laserlands and they sent me a different beam expander than was in the photo with a much smaller aperture lens for the output, if I sent it back they offered to refund my money but they couldn't sell me what was in the photo, they didn't actually have that one :( but kept listing it with that photo anyway. I bought some red laser diode modules from them later which were about half of the advertised output power. I don't trust them anymore, but yet, they do make honest deals too. Some members bought the honest deals and are happy.

You really can't expect much from ebay.

Ah, not exactly.. I've had some excellent results from ebay and 2 dud sellers. In both cases Ebay came through and got me a refund immediately.
Always look at the %age of the vendor. Personally I won't deal with anyone lower than 99.8% score.

If you get a sudden change in service from a vendor (esp. dealing with China) the seller has more than likely (not always) sold their business to a new owner.
This is very common all one has to do is apply for a WFOE Company Licence for complete take over. Very loose regulations.

Dealing with Chinese online business requires considering what is not being said directly. :can:

You can't really make a claim that eBay sucks. The sellers you are buying from are ones that are unreliable not the site. The simple answer here, of which has already been mentioned is to look at their feedback before purchasing. If you have a problem, then take it up with the seller.

Right to further your point.

Step 1#

Contact seller immediately if there is a problem. DO NOT DELAY, the faster you make contact the faster you'll get a result.

wait to see what the seller will do-----> If resolution is offered great,
if not go to the next level.. (I'd personally leave it no more than a week)

Step 2#

Contact Ebay and let them know of the issues, and see what they recommend. Ebay will usually ask you to wait 10 days before going to the next step. Make sure you let Ebay know the transaction #, seller name and what happened (why you want them to intervene, (ie. misrepresented item, fake goods, bait and switch....whatever) Let Ebay handle the problem from then on. Follow Ebay's instructions. Take a photo of the item document it.

Step 3#

Usually by this time Ebay has made good on their end to either charge the vendor or come up with a solution. Personally Ebay came though 100% of the time on issues with vendors. (no need for a step 3)

Hope these steps help in dealing with Ebay issues.

I honestly don't even waste my time typing in laser on eBay, even though their are exceptions. I know some decent ones exist, like that Thor I always see good reviews on.

Even with the Thor lasers you need to watch out. Some cost about $10-15 more and have a glass lens, while others are cheaper and come with an acrylic lens which will actually melt over time. There are many pitfalls awaiting the unwary laser buyer on ebay, and a few hidden gems if people know where to look.

IMO the winners are:
-The laser 301/303 models. These cost about $8-10, usually put out 30-100mw, are built well enough for the price, and will last a long time if not abused.
-The triple packs of AAA pointers: These come with 650, 405 and 532nm for about $7 shipped. The pointers I got were built reasonably well(No gross defects such as lack of driver board support), and they were all considerably overspec in the 20-50mw range. I always recommend these triple RGB packs to laser newbs who want a cheap intro to lasers.
-Those tailcap clicky 'military green lasers'. They're basically like a 301/303 with a tailcap clicky(A big plus for me) and they only cost $2-3 more.
-The proper glass lens Thor MII lasers. These are probably the best bang for your buck as far as blue lasers are concerned.

The losers are:
-The red and 405nm laser 303/301 variants. Usually they lack features such as support under the driver board and that leads to inevitable failure. Super cheaply made rubbish.
-These things:Underspec, bad build quality, etc.

-Totally bizarre stuff like this: They don't even show the correct color of the laser.
Focusable Green Burning Laser Pointer 3000mW Free Shipping | eBay

-Stuff like this: It's usually underspec, non IR filtered, and for a bit more you can get a quality green laser.

It all comes down to experience with some things. Nice list Razako, can't rep you yet as I've given out too much. :p
