dx laser safety goggles

the dx green laser safety goggles are exactly how they appear in the pictures, they reduce the brightness of my 30mw laser to what seems like %75 of the normal brightness, they block about 1/4 of my laser's power. i do not have the ability to use a power meter so i do not know for sure but the pictures do not lie! they do not perform as i had hoped and they do not make me feel safe  :-/  Should i contact deal extreme and try to get a refund? i still have the package they came in and they are in perfect condition! are they working the way safety goggles are supposed too? if not where should i get better safety goggles?

Really. No one has got the DX goggles yet, so LPF thanks you for your sacrifice :D

And the DX site says they are OD 4, what a load of baloney >:( If your laser was 100mW+ I'd send you off a free pair of good goggles as thanks for your enlightenment to us, but 30mW should be safe when used properly :-X
 
wow what absolute garbage - the wicked lasershades don't have a very high OD rating but even those make my 200mw green look like 1mW or less

i also have the dx 200mw red burning laser, and i ordered the dx red laser safety goggles but they have not arrived yet, but i expect they will be worthless as well! i spent $110 for 2 worthless safety goggles all for nothing, well at least other lpf members now know not to buy these goggles!

send them back to DX and tell them about what absolute garbage they are - DX usually doesn't know about stuff like this and it would probably benefit others as well if they stopped selling them/got ones that actually worked as this is an easy way to create a false sense of security
 
I hate to skew this informative post towards a point of my own, but I feel this is a truth we all know in the back of our minds yet so often overlook in our actions:

Remember, DX are scammers. They knowingly commit fraud and they don't care - they just keep doing it. However, DX (sometimes) has insanely low prices on their scams - that's the only reason we don't despise them. Some scammers charge full price for their BS. DX just deceives and lies to us at attractive prices. In fact, I placed an order with them just yesterday, but like with all DX orders I enter it with extremely low expectations. Never trust DX, and never be so irresponsible as to recommend them to anyone without giving them the dire warning a company like DX warrants.
 
pseudonomen137, DX aren't scammers. Crap quality products does NOT mean scammers.

DX sell dodgy products at very low prices. They don't grab your money and run, like how I picture a scammer. Or send you a product completely different to advertised (like an empty pen case instead of a working laser).

I've spent probably closer to half a grand at DX by now. And not once have I been dissatisfied with ANY of those purchases.

I bought some crappy bullet lasers for the heck of it, they work perfectly. I bought some cheap button batteries to go with, powers them nicely. The dilda, amazing laser. Then all the batteries and chargers I've got, worked a charm. Then other things, like USB wireless adapters. Couldn't beat them at $25, so I bought several. And each one has worked perfectly, in fact it's how I'm connecting to the internet right now.

So I'm sorry mate, but STFU :) DX aren't a scam, they are a verified source for 'good' crappy lasers.
 
Wow those are probably the most ineffective goggles I've seen so far. But... I think Mariomaster got it right. I also do not think DX are scammers, they just do not know much about the stuff they sell. Look at the specifications on their site:

- All-direction, all-angle professional safety protection eyeglasses
- Filters harmful light waves between 150~540nm
- Designed protect eyes from high powered green lasers
- Protected laser types: YAG
- Other light penetration rate: >85%
- Laser filter capability: YAG laser power reduction of 10000+ times

Designed to protect against green, yet the protected laser type is YAG? Anybody ever saw a YAG laser putting out 532nm light? The color of the glasses (yellow/orange) also matches with the typical color of YAG glasses. Most goggles that protect against green have red glasses, unless you have broadband goggles. So I'm guessing you have bought a pair of IR goggles that DX wrongfully sells as goggles for green. It certainly looks like 85% of the green is getting through.
 
That's an excellent point Petrovski.

laserlover, have you got any way to test it's effect on IR? That would be interesting if you could.

He could try using a TV remote behind the glasses. I can still operate my TV when using my remote behind my OEM goggles for green. If the DX goggles have OD4 for YAG (normally 1064nm), they should block enough at 950nm (typical wavelength for a remote) in order to stop the low powered IR from the remote.

Omg man I am sorry, but ive been busting a gut for the past 10 minutes, ehehehehe, ive seen tinted reading glasses that would block out of more 532 that those, ahahahaha

Man send that crap back, based on the previous posts they may indeed be for far IR (YAG), and were thus mislabeled which is in effect false advertisement.

But OMG, this is the funniest thing I have seen today.

Thanks for bitting the bullet though, you have saved alot of potential buyers. +1 from me.

i tried it and 3 different remotes still worked through the goggles, how lame!
 
Well so much for the IR theory. Sounds like the goggles are just complete crap. I'd try getting a refund asap.

brtaman is right however, this sucks for you but this review will probably save future buyers from getting these goggles. Get some nice goggles from WL or OEM, proven quality.
 
I wonder how that compares against those sports elite goggles from Nova, which ironically cost $5 less than DX.
 
Hey Dudes. You're looking at this philosophically wrong. DX may indeed sell crap but it's fun crap and it's cheap ;) ;) ;)
In all seriousness, send those goggles back to DX and demand a refund. You are certainly entitled to one. It's a sad thing to see how much light is passing through those pieces of s**t. I'll bet they cost about three cents to produce.
If you really want to talk about scam artists, then let's talk about how the friggin' oil companies are bankrupting us all :'(
