Dragon Lasers 1W Spartan

i see, I have been trying to look around a pair of more powerful batteries (currently using a pair of yellow Tenergy) for my Spartan. 750mAh run time is too short.

Anyone has any luck?
 





I get about 15-20 minutes runtime on my Spartan. Try using a new pair of batteries and remember that it takes about 5 full charge-discharge cycles before it reaches full potential.
 
I didn't time mine but it's around there. I need something like 30min run time per charge, or more.
 
Well I'm afraid atm there are no batteries that could output 3.0v at 1A for that long :( The best bet would be to get an adjustable power supply and set it to output 3v at 1A and connect ur Spartan to it, one wire to the spring and one to the bottom of the host (please remember that if you accidentaly burn your laser this way DragonLasers will not refund it)
 
Got my laser a few weeks ago =) been using it ever since, mostly for the "gigantic laser in the sky" effect though (notsomuch burning, it has its novelties but as you can't really see what's happening while you do it...heh)...at one point I was in a car driving down the highway late at night with no other cards/lights around, pointed it in the sky...whenever other cars came the other direction they would pull off the side of the road, bahahahaha.

Definitely worth it. :D
 
I just thought of something: the inside of the Spartan is white. Since white has the highest albedo of other colors, it should reflect light and heat back at the innards of the laser. If the inside was colored black, wouldn't it absorb heat and pass it to the host so it could further fufill it's heatsink duties?

It doesn't matter what color the inside is (the battery compartment is indeed covered with a thin layer of white plastic) beacuse te light goes straight to the lens and after that out of the case (its a laser diode after all, not a flashlight bulp). And no, black would be worse than white if there was any excessive light leaking inside the host because it would absorb the light and heat up the host a lot faster than white that would just reflect all the light off (cause a infinite mirror like effect inside the host).

Guess not then. I didn't mean to make it sound like I thought of a "lightbulb" type of situation, I was thinking about the heat generated by the batteries.
 
Well I don't know about that but atleast my batteries don't really heat up while using my laser. Ofcourse aluminium transfers heat better than plastic so in that matter it would be better to have nothing between the batteries and the host :), I don't think the color of the plastic would really have an effect on anything though.

Depends... Snazzier looking host...more expensive...low and high power modes...safety switch...questionable quality...good chance having lower than 1 Watt and long wait times then go for the Arctic.

Simple design...cheaper...most always high quality... with output power usually over 1 Watt...fairly quick ship time... go for the Spartan.

Or there is also O-Like which have even cheaper ones, but don't know much about those. I'm sure they are fine for the price.

Hi gang:
A newbie to the form. This is my first post and the Spartan is my 1st laser. I wondered about the linear aspect of the beam but I gather it has to do with the internal array; why they chose to build it that way, I don't know. For fun, I took a picture through a filter of the output at 5 m. At that distance, the beam length is about 12mm and width, 2mm. I hope I'm not just being redundant to earlier posts.
I found Frank at DL to be most helpful too.
