Dr Lava's kenom barrel laser beamshots

Is that circle glare from the dot or can you see that without the camera?

You may want to consider blackening the inside of the barrel, and lose some of that noise :o

Dont get me wrong, its a nice looking beam. I know with my camera I have to take pics on different angles sometimes to avoid the noise the camera generates. It can be quite the pain, when it looks so nice in person ;)

Yea but I don't think they're internal reflections that can be fixed by blackening the inside :-/

Correct, the inside of the silver barrel itself does not light up whatsoever while the laser is on. It's the interference pattern from the laser itself you are seeing, I believe. The die of the diode also reflects a bunch of light around, and this could also cause it.

In my experiance, ive noticed that the glare is more prevalent when the collimating lens is further away from the diode. Using a thinner lens closer to the face of the diode has always eliminated any noise issues ive had. When I try using a standard thicker lens, thats when i seem to encounter problems. This is why I figure it may have to do with the internal bouncing of light. The further away the lens is from the diode, the more the light is able to spread and hit the walls of the barrel. On the other hand, I have had diodes that just produce a crappy beam, no matter what optics I use.

Are there any filters that can clean up the beam without taking away too much power?

I'm happy with it the way it is, modifying it would void my 6 month limited warranty from drlava.

Wouldn't stating the "void waranty" be the trivial of the two? :P
