guys, the double ringed glowing spheres apparent in some of the pictures are from lens flare from the intense bright dot. In real life these artifacts aren't apparent. The wings on each side of the dot are there in real life, if you can see them in the pics.

That's not a smoke detector, actually, it's a ceiling light that was left like that for sanding/painting/renovating the ceiling and surrounding areas. There was just a fuckload of dust in the basement from sanding the concrete filler we used to patch all the holes in the cement, not smoke.
