Do's and don'ts with an LPM?

Ok there is probably a thread somewhere about this but ya know.

I've just ordered a LaserBee 2.5W LPM...

So what should I and shouldn't I do. For example should it be focused into its smallest point when shining on the thermopile etc etc.
