Your diode is from a "normal" PS3 sled(18 mW max)?
I read everywhere that the maximum current for a decent lifetime is threshold current+10, so 50 mA seems very high, although is a very interesting experiment.
Mistakenly the first time I was running mine at 46 mA, but later I reduce it to 42-43 mA (I still using it at short duty-cicle) and it 's ok for now.

Yup, normal ps3 sled here. Its had 2 9v ran through it at 50mA with no signs of stoppin... I have some extra diodes so I really want to see how far this one will go.
