I have used a 600mW Green laser (IR filtered though) for a while now, without any sideeffects, but I'm super careful! I always make sure there is a 8 meter+ distance, there is no risk of getting it reflected and I'm mostly outside to minimize the risk even more.

Reason is I don't have a pair of goggles and I actually shouldn't have ended up with this laser, JetLasers sent me a wrong laser..

You should still buy goggles asap, seriously 600mW green is super bright.

Personally when I look my 130mw greens dot without goggles I get headache

Green lasers use a high powered IR diode first, and some of this IR "leaks" but is not focussed into the beam that you see as a green beam. The IR leaves the host in a cone shape as it is not focussed by the optics designed to focuss the green wavelength, and generally can not hurt you at 6-8 ft. or so.

The problem there is, you may be pointing your green beam at something safe 10ft+/- away, but reflecting IR from something shiny sitting a foot away on the table in front of you, and since you can't see any IR, you think you are safe, but IR is getting your eyes.

Most if not all cheapy 10 dollar web cams have an IR filter in them, and most cheap green lasers without an IR filter have somewhere you could hot glue in your harvested IR filter.

But even with the IR issue taken care of, glasses are really required for higher powered lasers, because that bright ass beam can do the same if not more damage quicker, because it is focussed.

I was new once too, and the more I read and asked, the more questions I ended up having, that means you are getting bit by the laser god bug, and thus you will be infected with no cure known to man, and then learn all these answers and more.

Enjoy the hobby, but value your eyes, you only get one set from the factory and seconds are hard to come by, and expensive. LOL

Ok i understand so if its filtered, just the beam reflection is dangerous if it hit your eyes ...

I already use eagle google , so these question was just for safety tips

So i guess the best is to get filtered one for the best safety

Well that's still dangerous. That's why you're wearing goggles in the first place right? Most of those 532nm filtering goggles will not filter out the IR component, and even worse, since your eyes are behind some filters, your pupils may be dilated, letting in more light. The green beam is the most dangerous wavelength coming out of a green laser, but the IR is still there, and unless you have goggles that filter out both wavelengths, you're still technically in danger.

You can get some 532nm + IR filtering ML7 goggles for the specific purpose of filtering out all those wavelengths. They're pricey though, at around $150.
