Just learning and heard about them on the greenies, but do other colors, like blue and red also need ir filters or am I thinking wrong here..

thanks for the help,

^ Not all blue lasers are diode based, many are also DPSS based and DO have IR filters (Although, they are not REQUIRED in any laser).

Red DPSS lasers exist also, be it much rarer.

dpss lasers emit a visible color and ir... you don't need to filter the ir unless you want to.

diode lasers do not emit ir, well unless it is an ir wavelength diode :p

DPSS = you should
Diode = No IR, unless it is an IR diode of course. =)
For the sake of safety, I would filter IR from ANY DPSS.

Blue is ultraviolet light, but just as dangerous :D

you need to do much more reading before giving out advice :scowl: .... blue is not ultra violet. uv is sub 400nm.

and there are blue lasers that emit ir.

Blue is not even violet, let alone ultra-violet.

Anyway, any DPSS-type of laser will need to be IR filtered--blue, yellow, or even red DPSS lasers.
