DIY Green He/Ne Build. Mellow Yellow DPSS Hybrid

I'm getting a little fed up of this.....

that impresses the He!! out of me...

Well when the tube is lit, I doubt you will see much green in there.
The tube is pretty bright with that pink glow.

On a side note, for those who have a dead tube, you can always strap
a green to it and just pretend :san:

One thing I did neglect to mention, anyone who tries this simply
by placing a 532 pen behind a he/ne tube in operation, be careful
not to get too close..

The H/V will leap right into your hand

Surprisingly it would just hurt, but not kill the 532 laser... dont ask how I know.

Maybe it's because the current only flows on the host of the laser and passes over the diode

Like how people inside an airplane don't get affected when it gets hit by lightening.

The PSU for his 1w HeNe is probably outputting about 1200VDC @ ~3ma so it's unlikely that it would fry the diode unless the discharge hit the bond wires.

I guess it took the path of least resistance to my hand... It was brief
and the old 7mW leadlight kept on working.. still have it in fact.

As suggested, I would think it would have to pass through the diode
in order to cause any real damage... Just dont ask me to confirm this

I'm looking at a little red HeNe to add to the collection at the moment, I wonder what 5 to 30mW or nicely coherent 488nm from the Argon would look like when shot up its rear mirror?

Well I was alternating between shot up its "rear mirror" and several other analogies but that was the least offensive one I could think of lol.

After playing with lining up a laser pointer on optic fibre here, I'm thinking I will be needing some serious engineering to hold everything lined up...

Ohhh purple! Nice work. Paid for 632.8nm HeNe, I have an 488nm Argon, and I have a 473nm DPSS coming. I'll have a play and see what colours I can come up with

See now I'll have to build some brackets and a bed to set it all up on *sigh* This hobby is becoming bigger than amateur radio!
